The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada's leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH Adult Operative Services portfolio functions within a Level 1 Trauma Center providing surgical access to various specialties including, Neurosurgery, OHNS, Urology, General Surgery, Ortho Trauma, Plastics, Burns, Spine, iMRI, and Solid Organ Transplant Services. The Operative Services Portfolio encompasses the Adult Pre-Admission Clinic, Short Stay Surgery Unit, Operative Theatres, and Post Anesthetic Care Unit. This opportunity will provide the successful incumbent with access working within the Short Stay Surgery Unit (3B1) at the University of Alberta Hospital. Supporting a multidisciplinary team caring for adult patients, the RN will provide care to patients being prepped for surgery and will also provide post operative care for ambulatory day surgery and extended day surgery patients through to discharge. You will gain valuable nursing experience working alongside skilled staff, in a fast paced and dynamic environment, supporting AHS's commitment to providing safe, high quality, family centered care.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Demonstrated excellent assessment, leadership, and patient care skills. Strong communications skills (verbal/written). Strong interpersonal & problem-solving skills. Proven reliability/dependability required. Ability to deal with patients who are acutely ill in an unpredictable and stressful environment. Ability to work in a physically demanding environment: Considerable standing/walking; lifting, positioning, pushing and/or transferring patients; considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shift). Walking (continuously for 5.5 - 7 hours per shifts) and lifting up to fifty pounds; pushing beds/stretchers. Must have 2 years adult surgical nursing experience or recent phase II recovery (Day Surgery) experience Certification/current experience with IV initiation & phlebotomy. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing. ACLS. Advanced knowledge of regional/neuroaxial/multimodal anesthesia. Advanced knowledge of chronic pain an asset. Advanced knowledge of ERAS, STOPBang/OSA, NRT, Infection Control, & Health Promotion strategies. Connect Care (EPIC) experience. Computer literacy. Certification with the Canadian Nurses Association in Medical/Surgical or Perianesthesia Nursing an asset. Recent charge nurse experience. Experience orientating new staff/students.
