Your Opportunity:

The Registered Nurse - Public Health Nurses (PHNs) working in the Well Child Clinic in a focused practice are required to practice with a high level of autonomy in community settings with the ability to be self-directed and exercise independent nursing judgement. The PHNs role is to promote, protect and preserve the health of individuals, families, groups, communities and populations in a variety of settings in an ongoing or episodic process. On a daily basis, this position provides family-centered support and preventative approaches for infants, children and their parents through routine and complex immunization appointments. Collaborative work includes other health professionals and community partners, supporting capacity building approaches focused on client strengths and participation. The PHN has direct responsibilities within a Population Health Model to assess key health determinants and respond to global, national, provincial and local mandates. Many of the responsibilities of the PHN are mandated by the Public Health Act and Communicable Disease Regulations. PHNs will advocate and engage in healthy public policy options to facilitate healthy living, incorporating the concepts of inclusiveness, equity and social justice as well as the principles of community development.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.17/hour - $42.96/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

Lift/carry supplies up to a minimum of 30 lbs. At least 6 months current experience working in well child clinic within the last 3 years. Ability to bend, twist, kneel and respond safely and quickly to a variety of emergency situations. Independently perform the skills of a certified BLS provider. Sit, stand for a minimum of 30 minutes. Ability to raise arms to shoulder height, in a repetitive movement for immunization. \xe2\x80\xa2 Work within outreach sites that have no consistent ergonomic setup. \xe2\x80\xa2 Effective and efficient time management. \xe2\x80\xa2 Experience working in MEDITECH Clinical Information System. \xe2\x80\xa2 Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients from various cultures, ages and socioeconomic backgrounds. \xe2\x80\xa2 Proficient computer and keyboarding skills. \xe2\x80\xa2 Demonstrated culturally competent care. \xe2\x80\xa2 Conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at the point of care. \xe2\x80\xa2 Self-directed and able to exercise critical thinking and independent nursing judgement in a fast-paced stressful environment. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred; however, skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in a community setting will be considered. Current CNA Certification in Community Health Nursing. Internationally Board-Certified Lactation Consultant. Recognized Breast Feeding Courses. Advanced knowledge in the Well Child Clinic setting as evident by 3+ years of experience.
