Your Opportunity:

Reporting to the Public Health Area Manager and Care Manager, the Registered Nurse (Public Health Nurse - PHN) at Village Square Community Health Centre, participates in planning, implementing, and evaluating programs within Public Health. The Registered Nurse - Public Health Nurse assists individuals, families, groups, and communities in accepting responsibility for their own health and assisting them in achieving their health improvement goals. The PHN assesses community health needs and develops programs to meet those needs through consultation with peers, the community, resource people, and the utilization of other strategies. Incorporating awareness of the determinants of health and the relationship to health status, this role contributes to improving the health of the population by providing public health nursing services. These nursing services would include Community and health assessments. Development and evaluation of plans (including case finding and referral). Consultation and facilitation appropriate to all developmental phases throughout the lifespan. Program delivery and follow up. Immunization and communicable disease prevention and control. Client advocacy. Fostering appropriate use of the health care system. Facilitating cooperation and coordination among the many health and social services agencies. Collection and recording of client-based data. Involvement in nursing or other health research. Quality improvement; and safety and risk management. The PHN may be expected to carry supplies up to 25 lbs. for vaccine programs, within the clinic setting and off-site locations. Extended periods of standing or sitting and repetitive hand movements are required. This position requires someone who is able to move easily between multiple sites while transporting equipment.

Description:

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.17/hour - $42.96/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Required Qualifications:

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Additional Required Qualifications:

At least one year experience working as a Registered Nurse in any of the following areas: prenatal, postpartum, labor & delivery, pediatrics, or immunization in the last 3 years. Students with a completed final focus specific to public health (within the last 3 years) will be considered. Proficient computer and keyboarding skills. Must be able to conduct contemporaneous electronic documentation at point of care. Ability to communicate effectively with diverse clients of various cultures, ages, and socioeconomic status. Demonstrate ability to be self-directed, able to exercise independent decision making, nursing judgment and demonstrates critical thinking skills. Efficient and effective time management skills. Must be able to work independently in a fast-paced and stressful environment with minimal supervision. Ability to independently perform the skills of a certified BLS provider. Must be available for scheduled orientation days. Preferred Qualifications:

Baccalaureate degree in nursing is preferred; skills and experience relevant to nursing practice in community sector will be considered. Community Health Nursing Certification. International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification is an asset. Current experience with multi-cultural population. Experience in assessment, consultation, and teaching. Current urban Well Child Clinic and School public health experience within the last 3 years preferred.
