Jean Tweed Centre is a leading, community based organization that provides a safe and supportive environment for women with substance use, mental health, and gambling concerns. Recognizing the diversity of women's experience in today's society, our programs seek to address a range of issues in a woman's life that may contribute to substance use and gambling concerns. Understanding each woman's experience within the broader physical, emotional, social, cultural, and gender framework, we provide a client-centered approach to health.

The Child Development Centre provides a warm and nurturing environment for children to play and learn alongside achieving their developmental milestones.

The Registered Early Childhood Educator provides care and guidance to children aged 0-13 and support mothers in meeting parenting goals.

The position involves assessing the abilities and needs of children, interacting with parents concerning the progress of children, and participating in the development and implementation of early childhood programs.

Responsibilities



Service



Assess the abilities, needs and interests of children and monitor their progress or challenges. Engage children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical and emotional growth and ensure their security and well-being. Demonstrate an understanding and ability to adhere to policies and procedures in the Centre, as well as expectations from the Ministry of Education, Toronto Children's Services and Toronto Public Health. Develop and implement daily activity schedule for children that involves child directed activity, care routines and transition time. Provide opportunity for child directed play experience and activities for problem solving. Provide experiences and play materials that actively promote diversity and acceptance in interactions and attitudes. Observe how children use materials and interact in groups with each other and adults, ensuring daily observations are recorded. Use observations to expand play and planning of learning activities. Discuss each child's progress with parents and encourage them to participate in the development of their children. Build positive relationships with parents and assist them in meeting goals. Participate in the planning, development and implementation and ongoing evaluation of programs. Carry out within the team independent attachment activities and parent/child activities or exercises. Promote a healthy and safe environment within the Child Development Services team. Attend professional development training programs. Assume additional responsibilities from time to time as the situation demands.

Conduct job responsibilities with a commitment to harm reduction, trauma- informed, women-centered and anti-oppressive practices. Abide by the Occupational Health and Safety Act, and work in a manner that is safe, reporting incidents immediately to direct supervisor. Adhere to the policies and procedures of The Jean Tweed Centre. Perform other duties as assigned in order to meet the overall goals and objectives of The Jean Tweed Centre. Maintain a client service orientation including learning about/addressing client needs and concerns. Work collaboratively including respect others, sharing information, consulting and celebrating shared successes. Demonstrate accountability by holding self-responsible and following through on commitments. Support inclusion and equity by respecting others, embracing diversity and addressing oppression. Commit to continuous learning through professional development, giving and receiving constructive feedback and applying new skills.

Qualifications



Diploma or Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE/RECE); must be registered member in good standing with the College of Early Childhood Educators. A minimum of two years' experience in the field of Early Childhood Education. Emergency first aid, CPR training level C. Up to date Immunizations. Proof of two step TB test. A current and clear Police Vulnerable Sector check. Knowledgeable in working with women who have substance use/gambling concerns. Familiar with relevant legislation, i.e. Child Care and Early Years Act and Child Youth and Family Services Act. Ability to build trust and positive relationships with families. Ability to be energetic, resilient and maintain a sense of humor. A high degree of personal initiative with good planning and organizational skills. Upon commencement of employment, all new employees are required to be up to date with vaccinations.
