As part of the OKC team, the Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will:

Provide opportunities for families in need of support to identify their needs and to develop strategies to respond to those needs within a community development model by providing opportunities for parent short term childcare.

Support in other Early Childhood Programs and help facilitate programming.

Be under the supervision of the Early Learning Coordinator but will be expected to work independently with clear guidelines defining their role.

rimary responsibilities



Demonstrate respect for the diversity of individuals

Plan an Early Learning for children 0-6 and their families, follow the principles of "How does learning Happen and the requirements outlined in the ELECT document, based on observation following the pedagogical approach to learning.

Ensure that the playroom is safe, clean and inviting.

Complete observation of children and share information with families to ensure developmentally appropriate activities are planned and share the child experiences with families

Ability to document learning through pictures and share the learning process with families.

Model appropriate communication skills to help develop positive relationships with parents, children, staff, and community.

Build relationships with children and guide behaviour toward the goal of self-discipline using positive guidance techniques.

Get down to children's level and actively participate in activities that children are doing.

Provide parents with information needed to support them in their parenting role, i.e., articles, books, referrals.

Participate in regular staff meetings as scheduled to recommend changes/additions to policies and procedures, to engage in conflict resolution with co-workers/families and report unresolved issues to the Early Learning Coordinator/

Be aware of and attend professional development opportunities that will enhance their learning.

Be open to new challenges, provide input into solutions that will enhance the programs at OKC.

Complete all required forms and ensure all information is forwarded to the appropriate place.

Provide orientation to new families at the start of each new program and for on-going programs

Complete tracking sheets, feedback forms and all related documentation

Recommend new materials and toys for purchase to accommodate the short-term care program

Supervise students who have been placed in the program.

Be flexible to provide appropriate levels of support for programs- McKenzie and Westfort and Windsor sites if needed.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE



Registered Early Childhood Educator

Minimum two years' experience working with children from high-risk populations in a childcare related position

Member of the College of Early Childhood Educators of Ontario

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT



Willingness to work flexible hours, some evenings or weekends

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.86-$25.86 per hour
