Your role as Regional Vice President (RVP) for Central and Northern Ontario you will:

be accountable for leadership, sales, risk management, guidance and, of paramount importance, business development in support of the overarching Business Banking strategy. The RVP provides leadership and direction to a team of senior business banking professionals, developing a strong team of leaders and monitoring talent within the Central and Northern Ontario.

Vision: You will get to develop and implement a regional plan to achieve balanced growth objectives.

Strategy: You will provide strategic guidance of business development, business operations, and risk management within the region ensuring product/sector diversification, pipeline management, reporting, and commercial credit compliance.

Mentorship: You will establish clear expectations and objectives, provide coaching and performance and talent management within the region. You will be a key resource for complex, authoritative advice, and are the senior escalation point for Member issues.

Business Development & Social Commitment:

  • Grow and develop business in this key market through sales focused leadership and further development of our presence within the market.
  • Build a well- diversified book of business banking Members through a variety of industry sectors.
  • Demonstrate leadership and visibility in the community through involvement in one or more business/non-profit/charitable organizations at a senior/officer level.
  • Drive referrals to other departments including Retail, Leasing and Wealth through business banking employees, as appropriate.
  • Generate new business contacts/opportunities through network with local businesses and active participation with local community organizations to maximize networking and relationship building opportunities.
  • Acts as an ambassador within the local community, promoting the Meridian group of companies, maintaining a highly visible presence through volunteer and community work and involvement in the community\xe2\x80\x99s business affairs.
Planning:
  • In conjunction with the Vice President, set long and short-term business development and sales objectives to ensure achievement of targets in support of Meridian\xe2\x80\x99s overall business objectives.
  • In partnership with Business Banking leaders, establish strategies to drive product/sector diversification, pipeline management, reporting, and commercial credit compliance.
  • Achieves specific business development objectives while controlling risk,
  • Through a coordinated, targeted and integrated marketing plan, identify and initiate contact with Members, partners, community leaders, centres of influence (COI) and prospects to close deals and strengthen, protect and grow the commercial book of business.
  • Fiscal management through the establishment of an operating plan and budget aligned to strategic objectives and goals.
  • Develops and implements business banking strategies aligned to the achievement of commercial priorities including portfolio diversification, loan growth, and deposit growth to capitalize on opportunities within the geographic region
Leadership:
  • Ensure effective partnership with Business Banking Development Managers and/or Cash Management Specialists to generate deposits and relationship growth and embracing best practices.
  • Actively monitor the profitability of commercial relationship with Members with the intent of ensuring Relationship Managers are building long-term mutually beneficial relationships by fully understanding the goals, objectives and status of the Member\xe2\x80\x99s business and providing guidance around any corrective actions required.
  • Ensure sound underwriting/credit practices are followed to promote sound lending activity.
  • Ensures strong partnership exists with Commercial Credit and Cash Management to appropriately structure, negotiate, and document complex credit and cash management arrangements with segment Members and prospects
  • Ensure that all aspects of risk are effectively managed and commercial activities are carried out in accordance with Meridian\xe2\x80\x99s credit policies & practices and regulatory policies, escalated to the Vice President, Business Banking as appropriate
  • Responsible for the establishment of a talent management strategy including the attraction and retention of top Business Banking
How you will succeed:
  • Minimum 15 years progressive experience in sales/service and managing a diverse portfolio in a commercial banking environment, including 10 years of progressive Management experience
  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, commerce, business administration, or equivalent work experience.
  • Proven experience lending to general industry sectors (non-real estate).
  • Experience and knowledge in Commercial Real Estate, Land Development and Construction and Hospitality industries, and supporting businesses an asset.
  • Sales experience and contacts working in the region and surrounding areas an asset.
  • Proven business development skills preferably in a Commercial sales role capacity
  • Exceptional demonstrated ability to analyze financial statements and understand aspects of lending such as project financing, market/industry analysis, and cash management, etc.
  • Strong and thorough knowledge of the commercial banking marketplace and the assigned market area\xe2\x80\x99s key industries and competitive positioning.
  • Expert knowledge of segment, strategies, structure, as well as its lending and deposit products and services.
  • Excellent people leadership and management, analytical, relationship, interpersonal, communication, presentation and team skills. Proven ability to develop high performing teams.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage a group of senior leaders within a region
  • Proven leadership, organizational, impact, influencing and presentation skills.
  • Ability to interact at any level within the organization and in a business development capacity within the community.
  • A resilient and adaptable change management leader with the ability to tactically implement a strong strategic vision
  • Strong strategic/critical thinking, problem resolution and decision-making abilities
  • Exceptional demonstrated ability to understand aspects of market analysis and industry trends
  • Strong business acumen coupled with a demonstrated ability to initiate action to achieve results and meet deadlines while respecting fundamental corporate values.
  • Advanced credit and interviewing techniques, credit investigation and underwriting skills.
  • Highly networked in the geographic region
  • Ability to work in normal business environment as well as flexible to work evenings and/or attend community events.
  • Mobile in order to travel throughout Central and Northern Ontario as travel may be required to meet Member needs
