Supports Senior Vice President in British Colombia & Yukon (BC&Y) Region to achieve profitable growth by providing strategic direction, leadership and oversight for Retail and Small Business Leadership teams for the BC&Y Region. Leads an assigned team of District Vice Presidents (DVPs) and Directors, which at the discretion of the RSVP may be adjusted based on the prevailing requirements of the Region.

Accountabilities

Leads and drives a customer-focused culture throughout numerous districts within their Regional Market to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.

Leads a sales management strategy for the Regional Market by:

  • Developing sales management disciplines and principles to enable District Vice Presidents and their teams meet or exceed nationally defined goals and business plans;
  • Working with the RSVP, formulates short and long-term strategies and objectives that support the strategic growth initiatives of the Region;
  • Utilizing expert sales management and relationship building skills, effectively mentor and coach a team of sales management professionals;
  • Provide guidance and recommendations to DVPs to assist with achievement of revenue, profitability, cost saving, business volume goals, CPulse and SPulse.
Leads the Regional Market Management team, in developing and cultivating the Scotiabank brand by:
  • Maintaining a close, collaborative working relationship with Scotiabank partners in the market area, with a focus on providing a holistic product offering, deepening and broadening Scotiabank client relationships.
  • Analyzing the market area and competition within each segment of the Regional Market; maintaining a current and thorough knowledge of competitor practices, economic and business trends to effectively direct staff in achieving business goals.
  • Identifying, establishing and maintaining client relationships with the Regional Market's most significant clients (as determined by size/complexity), including key business referral sources in the assigned market area.
Provide strong leadership to direct reports by:
  • Ensuring DVPs and Directors have a defined strategy to meet new business objectives and business development.
  • Provide coaching and counselling on business development, complex products, and complex, higher risk transactions.
  • Identify and initiate training requirements or recommend candidates for outside courses as appropriate.
  • Identifying and facilitating the involvement of Branch Managers and other stakeholders to further business interests.
  • Ensuring the Bank's risk appetite and risk culture are incorporated in the day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Builds a high-performance environment and implements a people strategy that attracts, retains, develops and motivates their team by fostering an inclusive work environment; communicating Scotiabank's vision/values/business strategy and managing succession and development planning for the team.
  • Creates an environment in which his/her team pursues effective and efficient operations of his/her respective areas, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to all of the Bank's risks, including operational risk, regulatory and compliance risk, AML/ATF risk and conduct risk, and including but not limited to responsibilities under the Operational Risk Management Framework, Regulatory Compliance Risk Management Framework, AML/ATF Global Handbook and the Guidelines for Business Conduct.
Education / Experience
  • Expert knowledge of Canada's financial services marketplace and the customer segments within it.
  • Post graduate university degree with a focus on business/finance preferred.
  • PFP designation or Bank recognized equivalent. Alternatively, expert knowledge of financial planning concepts.
  • Knowledge of sales management techniques and leadership skills are essential, including expert ability to coach Sales Leaders.
  • Strong knowledge of Retail and Small Business products and services, including a working knowledge of systems, routines and operating procedures.
  • Knowledge of products and services provided by the Bank's specialized sales forces and other delivery channels such as Wealth Management, Mortgage Sales Force, Commercial Banking etc. and how to expertly build and navigate relationships to mutually beneficial results.
  • Expert knowledge of the Bank's risk tolerance and ability to guide Sales Leaders.
  • Thorough knowledge of products and services offered by other financial institutions and niche competitors; ability to identify trends in the micro and macro markets
  • Has the ability to identify and build small business banking relationships; coach direct reports.
  • Capability to build and maintain a presence in the communities within the defined regional market.
