DASCH is a non-profit organization established in 1974 dedicated to exploring and meeting the residential, day program, respite and foster care needs of youth and adults. Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Manager of Quality Care, the Recreational Counsellor is responsible for assisting in the research, planning, development and facilitation of inclusive, community-based leisure and recreational programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Schedule:
8-week term, beginning on date of hire
Monday - Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm, 35 hours per week
Salary
$16.00 hourly rate
Role & Responsibilities:
Assist in the identification of individual's needs, abilities, strengths and interests as they relate to leisure and recreational activities.
Research, plan, develop and facilitate community-based leisure and recreational programming for individuals with intellectual disabilities.
Assist in the development of assessment protocols for ongoing evaluation of leisure and recreational activities implements.
Help enrich the recreational experiences for participants.
Understand barriers experienced by the people we support and problem-solve to overcome them.
Ensure all activities are conducted in a safe manner and align with DASCH's vision, mission and values.
To promote all recreational activities through a variety of mediums and encourage participation.
Maintain confidentiality, respecting the privacy of each individual and DASCH operations when discussing your work, in accordance with the DASCH code of confidentiality.
Interact with individuals, families, co-workers, and supervisors in an approachable and respectful manner.
Skills & Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of intellectual disabilities and experience working in the field is an asset.
Exceptional communication, organization and interpersonal skills.
Flexible, creative and posses physical and emotional stamina.
Exceptional collaboration and teamwork skills.
Ability to work in a busy and dynamic environment.
Canadian Grade 10 Education or equivalent (degree, certificate, or diploma programs completed in English or French) or Level 6 on the Canadian Language Benchmark Assessment is required.
Valid Class 5 Full or Intermediate Manitoba Driver's License is required with access to a vehicle.
