Your Opportunity:

The Recreation Therapist role is within the Alberta Hospital Edmonton's (AHE) Allied Health and Patient Experience Team. The Recreation Therapist position is a rewarding opportunity to support patients within their rehabilitation journey, as well as support meaningful leisure opportunities through evidence-based assessment, planning, treatment, and evaluation. AHE serves individuals that experience both mental health and addiction concerns in adult and forensics acute and rehabilitative models of care. As a member of the Allied Health and Patient Experience team at AHE, the successful candidate will be responsible for service delivery of a variety of leisure-based programing both on and off the unit. This role is recovery focused and requires strong communication and team collaboration skills.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor's degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Additional Required Qualifications:

Valid Heart & Stroke Foundation BLS-HCP. Experience working with individuals with addictions and mental health concerns. Experience with individual and group program facilitation. Understanding and knowledge of recovery orientated care and rehabilitation models. Preferred Qualifications:

Strong patient and family centered approach with the ability to work within a collaborative team environment, as well as engage in the patient experience, from a site perspective. Demonstration of punctuality, dependability and attendance record verifiable by references.
