Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about Recreation Therapy, to join our Addiction and Mental Health Outreach Team. This position is based out of Addiction and Mental Health Adult Outreach Services in the RRC Building in Medicine Hat. As a Recreation Therapist I, the incumbent will complete recreation therapy assessments on clients/patients experiencing addiction and/or mental health issues and evaluate needs and capabilities to determine goals and treatment plans. Facilitates, instructs and motivates clients/patients in therapeutic recreation activities. Communicates with program case manager and/or inpatient psychiatry nurse regarding patient progress, change in status and any concerns. Participates in case coordination and management as appropriate. Oversees, participates in, implements and evaluates recreational activities for clients/patients both for inpatient psychiatry and community recreation programs. Documents interventions with clients/patients. The successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and will liaise with community stakeholders and resources.

Description:

As a Recreation Therapist I, you will be working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team, providing comprehensive services for patients (clients, residents) within your assigned program or service area. You will ensure the level of therapeutic recreation practice is evidence based, patient-and family-centred, and in accordance with policies, procedures and standards of practice. You will complete assessment, treatment, education and management and provide clinical support and consultation. You will collaborate and communicate with the health care team and participate in patient rounds, family conferences and meetings as related to the client and family.

Required Qualifications:

Completion of bachelor\'s degree in Recreation Therapy, Therapeutic Recreation or Recreation and Leisure Studies. Active or eligible registration with Alberta Therapeutic Recreation Association (ATRA). Additional Required Qualifications:

Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team environment. Strong communication skills and ability to work with community stakeholders required. Effective organizational and time management skills. Related experience in facilitating groups in hospital and community for clients with addiction and/or mental health issues required. Preferred Qualifications:

Non-violent crisis intervention and suicide intervention training required. BLS preferred. Knowledge of relevant community resources for clients with addiction and mental health issues preferred.
