RECREATION PROGRAM FACILITATOR





The Recreation Program Facilitator is responsible for designing, organizing, and delivering a wide range of safe, engaging, and developmentally appropriate recreational activities for children aged 2 to 14 years. This role involves leading activities that encourage physical fitness, creativity, social skills, and fun, including sports, arts and crafts, group games, and outdoor exploration. The successful candidate will foster an inclusive and supportive environment where children can build confidence, teamwork, and a love for active living.

Responsibilities:



Program Planning and Delivery:

+ Develop and implement daily and weekly activity plans tailored to different age groups and developmental stages (toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, early teens).
+ Lead a variety of physical activities such as running games, obstacle courses, basic sports skills (soccer, basketball, relay races), dance, and movement exercises.
+ Facilitate creative arts and crafts projects that promote fine motor skills, imagination, and self-expression, including painting, drawing, sculpture, and seasonal crafts.
+ Organize group games that promote cooperation, communication, and fair play, including team-building exercises and problem-solving challenges.
+ Adapt activities to accommodate children with diverse needs and abilities to ensure all participants are included and engaged.

Supervision and Safety:

+ Maintain a safe, clean, and organized activity environment, both indoors and outdoors.
+ Conduct safety checks on equipment and materials prior to use.
+ Monitor children at all times, ensuring appropriate behavior, managing conflicts, and providing positive guidance.
+ Respond promptly and appropriately to emergencies or incidents, including administering basic first aid as needed.



Communication and Collaboration:



Communicate regularly and professionally with parents or guardians about program details, children's progress, and any concerns. Collaborate with fellow staff members to support a cohesive program experience and share best practices. Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.

Administrative Duties:

+ Record attendance, document incidents, and maintain activity logs.
+ Assist with set-up and clean-up of program spaces and materials.


Support registration processes and help with special events, field trips, and celebrations as needed.



Qualifications/ Experience Required:





Minimum of 2 years' experience working with children in recreational, educational, or camp settings. Post-secondary education or coursework in Recreation, Early Childhood Education, Physical Education, Physical Literacy, Child and Youth Care, or a related field preferred. Knowledge of child development principles and age-appropriate programming strategies for children aged 2 to 14. The ability to engage and motivate children through enthusiastic leadership and creativity. Strong organizational, time management, and communication skills. Physically fit and able to actively participate in physical activities and assist children as necessary. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and school breaks. Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C Certification. Trico Centre will initiate a comprehensive criminal background check for all new hires. A previous check will be accepted provided it is dated within the past 6 months Previous experience in a recreation environment and High Five Certified is an asset.

Schedule:





Part Time evening and weekend hours will be required and will necessitate flexible hours within the general Trico Centre scope of operations in keeping with the needs of the department. The weekly work schedule will be developed cooperatively with the Child and Youth Programs Director to effectively accommodate the needs of the position, department and organization.
