Job Description


The Edmonton Police Service requires an individual to provide intervention support within the Youth Diversion Unit. The Youth Referral Coordinator will act as a resource and referral link between vulnerable youth identified by the Edmonton Police Service and organizations providing intervention programming in the greater Edmonton area.

The Youth Referral Coordinator will work within our offender management and diversion programs and coordinate youth intervention planning through community referrals and collaborative solution forums. Responsibilities will include:

  • Introduce intervention services to youth who are identified by police as needing extra community supports.
  • Maintain existing collaborative efforts with police and community agencies serving vulnerable youth populations.
  • Seek new resources and supports for high-risk youth within the City of Edmonton.
  • Through intense relationship building, provide outreach services to identified youth and their families.
  • Provide a consistent connection between EPS and youth organizations.
  • Communicate youth crime trends and concerns to community stakeholders.
  • Offer expertise on safety planning to collaborations and individuals as requested.
  • Provide youth development expertise to a variety of initiatives within Youth Services Section.
  • Assist with updating various databases utilized within Youth Services Section to track community referrals.
  • Offer qualitative and quantitative outcome data to a variety of progress reporting systems.
  • Facilitating and coordinating youth programs specifically with young offenders (within both custodial and community settings).
  • Deep understanding of the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), Enhancement Act, Protection of Children Abusing Drugs Act (PCHAD), and Protection of Sexually Exploited Children\xe2\x80\x99s Act (PSECA).
Qualifications
  • Degree in Social Work and in good standing with the Alberta College of Social Workers
  • Minimum of Three (3) years related professional experience of complex case management and crisis navigation with an emphasis in youth and community development
  • Previous experience working within and alongside law enforcement and youth custodial settings.
  • Working knowledge of the youth criminal justice system and legislation.
  • Training in motivational interviewing and suicide intervention.
  • Training in and experience supporting victims of sexual exploitation and trafficking.
  • Advanced knowledge of community resources, social issues and crime trends in the City of Edmonton.
  • Certified to conduct YLS/CMI youth risk assessments.
  • Experience with implementing risk-need-responsivity model and offender risk assessment in creating intervention plans.
  • Ability to lead and develop multi-agency projects that include emergency service partners.
  • Experience in working with youth within community and custodial settings.
  • Extensive experience in working with Intensive Rehabilitative in Custody and Supervision.
  • Extensive training and experience with Indigenous teachings and values in circle processes and relational accountability.
  • Training in Cognitive Behavioral theory and Trauma Informed practices.
  • Excellent advocacy and interpersonal skills to effectively maintain relationships with key external stakeholders.
  • As part of your pre-hire screening you will be required to complete an Enhanced Security Clearance. Should you accept employment with the Edmonton Police Service you acknowledge and agree to participate in future Enhanced Security Re-Clearances at scheduled intervals or in any other circumstances, exigent or otherwise, as required by Human Resources Division.
Hours of Work: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday. Hours of work will be subject to the terms and conditions of variable hours of work program. Evening work will be required.

Salary Range: 21B, Salary Grade: 021, $34.78 - $43.72 (Hourly), $2,782.70 - $3,497.70 (Biweekly), $72,628.99 - $91,289.45 (Annually). The rates quoted are in accordance with a collective agreement between the Union and the City of Edmonton.
