Up to five (5) positions available
Reporting to the Manager, Recreation Operations and under the direct supervision of Supervisor, Arena Operations and Supervisor, Recreation Centre Facility, and under the guidance of experienced Recreation Facility Operators, this position is responsible for providing support to facility staff where additional assistance is required with the operation of facilities for seasonal work, programs, events and rentals. The Recreation Facility Operator 1 assists with operating and maintaining the Centennial Outdoor Rink and other indoor ice sheets and providing excellent customer service to the various user groups.
The work is routine and repetitive and is subject to quality check by a supervisor. This is a physically demanding position. Hours of work vary and includes evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Duties Include
:
Assists in building cleaning duties including, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, waxing and stripping floors, dusting ledges, ventilating system and lights, cleaning and disinfecting sinks, toilets and urinals, cleaning mirrors, cubicles, windows, ground maintenance, maintaining exterior spaces and replenishing supplies before, during, and after events and rentals to positively reflect our facilities
Assist with set up and take down of events which includes, but is not limited to, tables, chairs, portable stages, draping, partitions, retractable seating, arena boards, glass, conversion of dry floor portable floors. May also assist with transporting event and rental equipment between locations.
Operates ice resurfacers and maintains the ice in safe condition for use such as ice depths and edging.
Promotes the safe public, program, and rental use of the Centennial Outdoor Rink
Collects, transfers, and replace garbage and recycling.
Assists with the conversion of dry floors and ice sheets, making ice, and seasonal work.
Effectively communicates and exchanges information with co-workers and supervisor both verbally, and in writing through recording and sharing in the log books.
Performs other related duties as required.
All persons employed by the City of Vernon will be required to assist the City in providing emergency services. Duties assigned during an emergency may differ from regular duties.

Required Education And Experience:
Valid Class 5 B.C. Driver Licence
No experience is required. Training will be provided.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities:

Safety conscious with a demonstrated knowledge of applicable WorkSafe BC legislation, Technical Safety BC, and the City of Vernon Occupational Health & Safety policy.
Ability to obtain Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certificate
Ability to obtain Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate
Able to obtain and maintain an acceptable Police Information Check with the Vulnerable Sector Check
Preferred Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Building Service Worker Certificate.
Refrigeration Safety Awareness Certificate
Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate
Experience with efficiently operating light equipment including, but not limited to a wet dry vacuum, floor scrubber, snow blower, leaf blower and ride on tractor.
Previous experience operating ice resurfacing equipment and edger
Previous building conversion experience.
