Position Summary The Recreation Assistant is responsible for assisting the Recreation Coordinator with the coordination and implementation of recreation programs designed to meet the physical, social, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of the residents. The Recreation Assistant interacts with residents, staff, residents\xe2\x80\x99 families, visitors, and the general public while maintaining a high degree of professionalism at all times. This position is temporary to cover a maternity leave for approximately 18 months or until the incumbent returns. ResponsibilitiesEvent, Activity and Program Execution and Evaluation
Prepare for, set-up, implement and/or assist others in the execution of tasks associated with events, activities, programs and special occasions as identified by the supervisor
Assist with activities associated with the loading and unloading the HHF bus. Occasionally ride the bus with residents to attend off-site activities as a resource
Undertake activities to prepare for set-up, implement and/or assist others in the execution of tasks associated with events, activities, programs and special occasions as identified by the supervisor.
Monitor and conduct assessments of resident and family participation in events and programs, and gauge resident satisfaction with the various activities, providing feedback to the Recreation Coordinator and assist with sharing ideas to enhance programming
Operational and Administrative Responsibilities
Provide administrative support to the Recreation Coordinator by assisting with preparing general correspondence, forms, letters, notices, posters, presentations, newsletters, meeting agendas, meeting minutes, weekly, monthly and/or quarterly statistical information ensuring accuracy of content, grammar and HHF brand guidelines
Assist with the coordination and planning of special events and including updating the calendars, room bookings, developing promotional materials and informing the necessary support staff required for the event
Provide attention and care to animals (e.g. birds, fish, etc.) located on site
Assist with the coordination of the Volunteer Program, including directing and supporting volunteers
Health, Safety and Environmental Stewardship
Participate and contribute to the success of the overall safety program
Support and abide by all safety management systems and promote a safety culture throughout the organization
Maintain a clean, sanitary and tidy work area at all times
Respond to emergency situations as they arise providing the appropriate follow-up and documentation for the situation
Review and assist to develop job related safe work practices and procedures
Use lock out procedures or \xe2\x80\x9cout of order\xe2\x80\x9d signage and report issues and concerns to maintenance and management as required
Use Personal Protective Equipment and follow universal precautions
Participate in worksite inspections, health & safety meetings and committees as required
Contribute to the organization\xe2\x80\x99s commitment to improving its impact on the environment through day-to-day operations and seeking innovative ways to be a greener organization
Requirements
High School Diploma is required
1 - 2 years of previous administrative support is required
1 year of previous related work or volunteer experience is an asset
Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs and internet usage is required
Completion of a current and acceptable criminal records check for the vulnerable sector as required by the Protection for Persons in Care Act and the Accommodation Standards and Licensing Act is mandatory
First Aid and CPR certification is required or must be attained soon after hire
Some travel may be required to help support other HHF lodges
