We are traditional h?n?q??min??m? speaking people. Today, we are a strong, growing community of over 1,300 members. We live on a small portion of our traditional territory, known as the Musqueam Indian Reserve, located south of Marine Drive near the mouth of the Fraser River. The name Musqueam relates back to the River Plant, the name of the plant is m??k??y?. There is a story that has been passed on from generation to generation that explains how we became known as the x?m??k??y??m (Musqueam) - People of the River Plant. We have always moved throughout our territory using the resources it provides for fishing, hunting, trapping and gathering. We remain distinct and our cultural practices are strong, despite the devastating impacts of residential schools, colonial laws banning our ceremonies, and other attempts to assimilate our people. Position Summary



Reporting to the Office Manager, the Receptionist is the first point of contact for the Musqueam Indian Band Administration Office, Community Centre, and Cultural Centre. This role provides courteous and professional front-line service to community members, visitors, and staff. The Receptionist is responsible for greeting and directing visitors, managing incoming calls and correspondence, scheduling, and providing general clerical support to ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the Administration Office.



Roles & Responsibilities



Reception & Front-Desk Duties



Greet and assist community members, staff, and visitors in a professional, respectful, and culturally sensitive manner.



Answer, screen, and forward telephone calls; respond to general inquiries and direct callers to appropriate departments.



Maintain visitor log and ensure security protocols are followed.



Maintain daily staff log.



Assist with Coffee and Supplies/order.



Clerical & Administrative Support



Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and deliveries.



Coordinates outgoing couriers for staff.



Schedule appointments, book meeting rooms, and assist with event logistics as directed.



Log and distribute outgoing cheques from finance to community and admin staff.



Maintain filing systems (electronic and paper) as directed by the Office Manager.



Community Support



Provide accurate information to community members regarding administrative services and direct them to appropriate resources.



Support the Office Manager and Administrative team with day-to-day operational tasks.



Other Duties



Ensure the reception area is tidy, welcoming, and reflects Musqueam community values.



Perform other related duties as required.



Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities



Completion of Secondary School and/or business/office administration training, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.



Knowledge of Musqueam or other First Nations culture and history is an asset.



Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn new software.



Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a focus on respectful service delivery.



Prompt attendance



Ability to use tact, discretion, and good judgment when handling sensitive issues.



Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.



Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain focus on repetitive duties.



Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.



Criminal Records Check required.



Working Conditions



Work is performed primarily in an office environment at the Administration Office front desk. This role requires in office attendance at 8:30am to 4:30pm with 1 hr unpaid lunch.



Regular interaction with community members, staff, and external visitors.
