About the Position We are seeking a Quality & Food Safety (QFS) Specialist with initiative, flexibility, a positive attitude, & the desire to learn the business. QFS Specialist will be responsible for identifying & communicating food safety issues to Quality Management & the Plant team. This individual will also assist in the implementation of corrective & preventative actions as needed. This role will play vital role in ensuring compliance with regulatory, corporate, customer & 3rd party audit requirements. In addition, this position will be directly involved in the ongoing development, implementation & improvement of the local Quality Management System. It is the expectation that the QFS Specialist will actively participate in continuous improvement objectives in order to meet or exceed customer requirements & business goals. This position reports directly to the QFS Manager. Duties and Responsibilities
  • Prioritize safety in all daily activities
  • Maintain internal programs and procedures related to manufacturing products that are safe for customers and meet quality standards
  • Pest management program
  • GMP
  • HACCP
  • Month-end inventory
  • Environmental monitoring program
  • Ensure effective operations of the laboratory equipment and sufficient stock of laboratory reagents and other supplies
  • Assist QFS Manager in investigation of customer complaints and internal incidents which result in manufacturing of non-conforming products
  • Collaborate with commercial, operations, and maintenance teams to identify root cause
  • Inspect operational equipment which is critical for manufacturing safe products
  • Develop corrective actions and implement preventative measures
  • Enter data and information into multiple internal systems related to key performance indicators for product quality, non-conforming products, and customer complaints
  • Prepare SOPs, review and update internal policies and procedures related to laboratory activities and quality of the product
  • Find effective solutions for the non-conforming product based on risk assessment to minimize production losses
  • Track and trend data
  • Review production and laboratory records
  • Conduct internal audits and assist QFS Manager for the 3rd party audits, perform mock recalls
  • Conduct training for the operations personnel on subjects related to product safety and quality
  • Perform other duties as needed for successful operations
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Strong computer skills (Microsoft Office applications)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Knowledge of HACCP and GFSI standards
  • Knowledge of wheat and flour quality considered an asset
The ideal candidate is a quick learner with strong decision making, critical thinking, and problem solving skills. High attention to details, ability to prioritize activities, and work in a fast paced environment are required. Leadership skills would be considered an asset. Education or Work Experience
  • College/university degree in food science and relevant work experience or a minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience working in a related food processing industry with a focus on product safety and quality
Additional Information Physical requirements of the job include ability to climb stairs, lift up to 55 lbs, being capable to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time. Working on weekends and out of normal office hours may be required in rare occasions. Relocation assistance is not available with this position.
