Quality control technician

Main Functions

The selected applicant will be joining Lallemand Biofuels and Distilled Spirits quality control team in Montreal as a quality control technician/ research assistant. The position implies a wide variety of tasks but primarily product testing and supporting activities. The technician should be autonomous and detail oriented, perform efficiently under pressure and work well in a team. A qualification in microbiology, biotechnology, fermentation technology or similar is required, with laboratory work experience.

The specific activities include but are not limited to:

  • Inspect, handle and test production samples as well as the test materials (e.g. yeast, molasses, grain mash);
  • Carry out fermentation kinetics analysis experiments;
  • Perform common chemical and microbiological assays and prepare the materials to execute these assays;
  • Fill in and maintain relevant physical documents and/or electronic files;
  • Gather and report the results of the QC testing;
  • Carry out general tasks required for the optimal functioning of the lab and the team;
  • Respect health and safety policies, good manufacturing practices, good laboratory practices, and internal standard operating procedures.
Technical skills

Required
  • Bachelor's (minimum) in Fermentation Technology, Microbiology, Biotechnology or other relevant discipline with 1-3 years related experience, preferably in a laboratory setting
  • Good skills in a variety of common laboratory techniques, particularly in handling microbiological material (!)
  • Very good skills in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel
  • Fluency in written and spoken French and English
An asset
  • A broad range of knowledge of analytical techniques (e.g. HPLC, GC)
  • Experience in fermentation technologies e.g. in the brewing and distilling industries
