Position Purpose and Objectives

The Quality Control Technician, reporting to the Quality Manager, is a key member of the Quality Team. This role encompasses a variety of responsibilities, as outlined below, and may include additional tasks as directed by the Quality Manager.


Duties and Responsibilities

(may include but are not limited to)


Operate in accordance with the Company's ISO Quality Management System. Proactively manage assigned tasks with minimal supervision. Effectively handle pressure, multitask, and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment. Perform inspections of incoming goods, first article inspections, in-process inspections, and final product inspections. This may include non-destructive and liquid penetrant inspections. Prepare and maintain quality documentation such as inspection reports, material test reports or certificates. Conduct material testing, including mechanical tensile, hardness, x-ray, impact, swell, and compression tests. Participate in daily production meetings to communicate Quality Control (QC) priorities, including planned inspections and first-off verifications. Utilize precision measuring instruments such as micrometers (inside/outside), vernier calipers, hardness durometers, Pi tapes, height gauges, and indicators to verify product conformance. Lead weekly scrap review meetings to drive reduction initiatives and coordinate recovery efforts across departments. Facilitate scrap awareness sessions focused on major scrap categories, supporting Team Leads and promoting operator engagement and accountability. Collaborate with production, quality, and engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions. Coordinate retraining initiatives to address recurring issues and improve process adherence. Conduct Non-Conformance Report (NCR) meetings to review incidents, track corrective actions, and ensure preventive measures are implemented. Review and resolve customer complaints related to returned products by assessing validity, identifying root causes, and collaborating on corrective and preventive actions to ensure customer satisfaction. If required, work with third-party inspectors or class surveyors. May support the internal audit team. Provide Quality Team support across departments, including Manufacturing, Engineering, Inside Sales, Global Service & Support, New Product Development, and Purchasing.

Qualifications




Practical experience in a manufacturing or machining environment. Proven hands-on experience with measurement gauges (micrometres, callipers, height gauges). Ability to select appropriate gauges based on feature characteristics and specified tolerances. Must be able to read and interpret basic mechanical drawings.

Physical Demands




Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, and hear. Capable of working independently under time-sensitive conditions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities if Required




ASQ Certified Quality Inspector or a diploma in Materials/Mechanical Engineering Technology (asset). Experience with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM). Trained Auditor certification. Knowledge of non-destructive testing methods (Liquid Penetrant and/or Ultrasonic). Familiarity with welding procedures and inspection. Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, SharePoint).

Supervisory Responsibility




Works independently and supports Team Leads or other team members as directed by the Quality Manager.

Working Conditions




Exposure to typical manufacturing environment conditions, including dirt, dust, noise, fumes, heat, and outdoor weather. Occasional exposure to chemicals and solvents in a mechanical test lab setting. Work may involve computer-based tasks in a production environment, including preparation and management of QC documentation.
