The Quality Control Supervisor / Manager-in-Training will perform supervisory duties and work under the Quality Control Manager to perform the duties of the Quality Control Manager. The Manager-in-Training position has potential to become a Quality Control Manager within our organization.
Quality Control Supervisor
Responsibilities:
Supervise, coordinate and schedule the activities of workers who process, package, test and grade seafood.
Establish methods to meet work schedules and coordinate work activities with other departments.
Resolve work problems and recommend measures to improve productivity and product quality.
Train staff in job duties, safety procedures and company policy.
Prepare production and other reports.
Quality Control Manager
Responsibilities include all responsibilities of the Quality Control Supervisor, plus:
Develop, implement, and maintain the Food Safety and Quality Management System (BRCGS, CFIA's Safe Food for Canadians, MSC) and review it in its entirety, verifying and validating the food safety plans and prerequisite programs to ensure continuous improvement.
Establish and maintain a positive food safety culture within the site.
Update senior site management on matters impacting the implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
Take appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
Communicate to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the Food Safety and Quality Management System.
Develop and administer training and development support for all employees to ensure that site personnel have the required competencies to carry out those functions affecting products, legality, and safety.
Lead HACCP team meetings and internal, third-party, and regulatory audits and inspections and resolve issues identified during these audits/inspections.
Lend support to the appropriate departments to resolve non-compliance issues.
Respond to and investigate all customer complaints.
Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and customer expectations.
Takes part in the implementation of new equipment and new products.
Oversee the responsibilities and activities of the Quality Control Team.
Monitors and enforces good laboratory practices.
Performs and/or oversees sampling and physical, chemical, microbiological and sensory testing.
Reviews all lab results, ensuring products meet specifications.
Maintains and calibrates lab equipment and instruments.
Other related tasks as assigned.
Education/Skills/Assets:
Have completed a HACCP training course and is competent to implement and maintain HACCP- based food safety plans.
Knowledgeable of regulatory requirements including the Food and Drug Regulations, Safe Food for Canadians Regulations, and Provincial Regulations (Nova Scotia Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture).
Understand the BRCGS Food Safety and MSC requirements.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills and ability to work in a team. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make key decisions.
Strong organizational, planning and time-management skills. Demonstrates consistency, quality, and accuracy in their work.
Working knowledge of standard computer programs (Excel, MS Word, etc.)

Pay: $24.59-$26.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35 - 45 per week
