Job Summary

The QA Manager will primarily be responsible to oversee the general quality function in the production plant and supervise the local quality assurance team. The incumbent also collaborates across departments, as needed, to maintain high quality standards.

Job Duties

Partners cross-functionally with local departments to ensure alignment and maximize performance against objectives, KPI's and ensure effective communication Oversees and manages departmental outputs, ensuring they meet safety and quality standards, production schedules and customer needs, including participation in interdepartmental benchmarking Leads and manages Quality projects/initiatives to ensure effective milestone planning and timely completion of deliverables to help accomplish company goals and mission Coordinates team responsibilities through effective scheduling, assignment of work, setting of priorities, and delegating of work, ensuring high standards, quality and efficiency Reviews and responds to all quality complaints/concerns within the plant/company and ensures thorough documentation Partners with Production, Sales and Warehouse to deal with any QA Holds in a timely manner Coordinates team activities through effective scheduling, assignment of work, setting of priorities, and delegating of work Verifies sanitation and environmental programs on a schedule; validates programs for efficacy annually Develops, monitors, maintains, implements and delivers training for Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practice, HACCP, sensory and allergen programs Validates the thermal process and shelf life of all products within the appropriate schedule Monitors the quality of all incoming ingredients and packaging; partners with national QA team to improve incoming material inspection process to set consistent standards across facilities Manages and leads all audits, inclusive of but not limited to; pre-planning, reporting, documenting, internal audits and external onsite inspections, with support from all local departments (Production, Warehouse, Maintenance, Continuous Improvement) and the national QA team Provides technical assistance and supervision for the Organic program, Non-GMO Project Program and Kosher certification Ensures that all staff under direction are equipped with and are using the proper PPE Establishes and implements employee training needs to ensure they have required competencies to carry out functions affecting product legality (federal, provincial and municipal regulations), safety and quality Commits to and motivates employees to go above and beyond minimum compliance to ensuring food quality and food safety, assumes ownership and takes appropriate action without direction Leads and promotes all local departments to build and fosters a Food Safety and Food Quality culture within the plant, in which all employees share in this responsibility Works effectively and collaboratively with all QA teams from other locations to maintain consistent specifications and high quality of products company-wide Partners with the Plant Manager to create and implement a cost-effective budget for laboratory and sanitation departments; Responsible for purchasing laboratory equipment Holds monthly MRM meeting and presents report to local Management team and national QA team In the absence of the QA Manager, QA Specialist shall act as backup The QA Manager shall act as backup in the absence of any QA Technicians and other QA team members reporting directly into them Performs other duties and special projects as assigned by Manager SQF Practitioner Responsibilities: Oversees the development, implementation, review and maintenance of the SQF System, including food safety fundamentals and the food safety plan Takes appropriate action to ensure the integrity of the SQF System Communicates to relevant personnel all information essential to ensure the effective implementation and maintenance of the SQF System

Provides leadership for employee relations through effective and consistent communications, coaching, training, and development and evaluation of employee performance for your team Develops and implements performance metrics for your team and targets that are consistent with company goals; ensures your team has clear goals and are fully aware of expectations Ensures the effectiveness of employees through strategic hiring, assignment of duties, discipline, and dismissal Responsible for ensuring appropriate staff levels to meet requirements of the facility through recruitment, hiring, terminations and performance management
Job Requirements

Degree or an advanced degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Nutrition Science or a related discipline 5-7 years of working experience in Quality Assurance and knowledge of Food Safety 3-5 years of progressive supervisory and/or management experience ideally within a food manufacturing setting Excellent interpersonal and communication skills built on a team-focused approach Demonstrated project management skills Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, time management and execution skills Ability to plan, organize, develop, implement, and interpret goals, objectives, and policies Ability to delegate, set expectations, and monitor progress of all direct reports Ability to supervise and motivate a team to achieve and exceed their goals Ability to identify issues and implement creative and strategic solutions to overcome problems Ability to remain calm and practice sound judgement in emergency situations Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications
Work Conditions

Full-time, permanent position requiring flexible hours as required based on business needs Work is performed 50% in office environment and 50% on production floor and lab Exposure to noise and a wet temperature varied environment when in the production area Interaction with employees, management, and the public at large Flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays may be required to meet business needs After hours availability on emergency calls Wearing of company provided Uniform and other Personal Protective Equipment is required as applicable
