Book publishing - Publishing AssistantWe are looking for an avid reader, and administration ace to join our team as an assistant editor.You are a qualified candidate if you:

  • Often read Canadian authored books in any of the following categories: Adult nonfiction (bios, memoirs, history, law, political science, business or general nonfiction) or/and YA realistic fiction
  • have strong administrative skills
  • have strong English language communication skills
  • are an excellent problem solver

  • can set deadlines and meet them
  • collaborate well with others
Job description: The Publishing Assistant's (PA) role involves taking a book through every step involved at a publishing house. The PA assists the publisher and editors with ongoing book projects. The editorial team shares a keen sense of social and cultural responsibility and accountability, this is key to success in this role, as this lens is necessary for quality editorial judgement in line with our mandate. In addition to this, an acute awareness of current affairs and an ability to discuss, make connections and critique the events is paramount.On a day to day basis this involves:
  • editing manuscripts,
  • coordinating freelancers,
  • researching visuals,
  • coordinating with artists and authors to meet deadlines,
  • producing copy for back cover/catalogue use,
  • collaborating with designers
The PA can expect to be trained in every necessary task, but especially how to:
  • perform market analysis of books for prospective projects,
  • research and order images from museums/archives
