Through a blend of independent and collaborative work, you will become an integral part of our team as we build our reach and readership. About Us Dark Owl Fantasy is an independently owned publisher located in Edmonton, Alberta, that focuses on publishing books we\xe2\x80\x99re passionate about in the fantasy genre. Our catalogue includes best-selling urban fantasy, romantic fantasy, and young adult fantasy series with over thirty published titles. We\xe2\x80\x99re always looking for ways to bring our stories to an even wider audience, with translations in multiple languages, an on-going web comic adaptation of our best-selling series, and an upcoming tabletop role-playing game. This new role will combine the responsibilities of a Marketing Assistant and Publishing Assistant. The most important quality we\xe2\x80\x99re looking for is a passion for books! A candidate who loves reading (especially fantasy and romance) and talking about books will be an essential part of our future success. Working remotely with occasional in-person meetings, you\xe2\x80\x99ll be responsible for a mixture of creative, analytical, and organizational tasks geared toward increasing sales, reach, and social engagement with readers, as well as supporting our small team through the cycle of book production and marketing. Our top priority is to grow our revenue through creative digital ads and social-media-driven marketing. Our ideal candidate will be a self-motivated learner who can absorb and apply new information quickly. This position offers a lot of flexibility and independence, but in exchange, you will need to be able work efficiently and effectively without supervision. The ability to self-manage, take initiative, and contribute value in a collaborative environment will be a huge asset. This is a fulltime, permanent position in a hybrid environment with flexible hours. Responsibilities:

  • Developing marketing strategies and campaigns for multiple platforms, including social media.
  • Writing and launching PPC ad campaigns on ad platforms like Facebook, Amazon, Google, etc.
  • Managing social media accounts and groups, such as Facebook, Instagram, Discord, Patreon, etc.
  • Writing/creating social media posts, email newsletters, and other content to increase reader reach and engagement.
  • Planning and organizing collaborative marketing campaigns with other authors, publishers, blogs, etc.
  • Researching marketing best practices and trends in the publishing industry.
  • Working with our team to develop processes and tools to measure the reach and effectiveness of your campaigns, and leveraging those resources to make recommendations for future marketing strategies.
  • Assisting with projects such as Kickstarters and special editions.
  • Assisting the team with documenting marketing and publishing processes.
  • Assisting the team with various publishing and management tasks as needed.
Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Post-secondary education in Marketing or a similar field
  • 1-2 years of experience in Marketing, 1-2 years of experience in an assistant role, and/or any experience in publishing
  • Excellent written communication skills in English, including creative and/or business writing
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Self-motivated learner with strong critical thinking skills
  • Results-driven and seek to continuously improve the quality and efficiency of your work
  • Regularly use and/or are comfortable navigating social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel, as well as Google tools including Drive, Docs, and Sheets.
  • Laptop, internet access, and other necessary equipment for virtual meetings.
  • Canadian citizen or permanent resident legally able to work in Canada.
Bonus Skills:
  • Graphic design and/or multimedia skills, including Photoshop, Affinity, Premiere, Final Cut, etc.
  • Experience with Facebook, Amazon, and Google advertiser tools.
  • Interest or experience in programming with languages such as python and javascript.
