Job Summary
The Copyright and Scholarly Communications Office (CSCO), based in the UVic Libraries, plays a key role in the University\xe2\x80\x99s effort to adapt to evolving needs of faculty and students and to support teaching, research, and learning at UVic. The CSCO also has a role in aligning and strengthening the university\xe2\x80\x99s research priorities and impact by highlighting and addressing critical information policy and scholarly communication issues that impact faculty and graduate student research, including open access, copyright, and intellectual property rights, as well as providing concrete pathways to surface and disseminate research produced by the university community. Reporting to the Head, Scholarly Communications & Copyright Officer, and working closely with the Coordinator, Copyright & Digital Publications, this position provides support for the CSCO in advising faculty and staff on the application of UVic\xe2\x80\x99s copyright requirements and guidelines in a higher education setting and assists with initiatives related to research impact and digital publishing services support (i.e., the creation and dissemination of scholarly and teaching materials). In addition, this position also assists with social media coordination, event organization and support, promotion of current and emerging programs, preparing the unit\xe2\x80\x99s promotional materials, scheduling workshop, assisting with the preparation of reports and statistics, and special projects as assigned.

Job Requirements
Experience: This position requires a level of education, training, and experience equivalent to six (6) months of experience working within a comparable environment. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive and respectful working and learning environment.
  • General knowledge and understanding of copyright law and content licensing practices, in Canada, and able to apply policies, procedures, and instructions.
  • Experience with performing bibliographic searches, both print and online in the UVic Libraries Collection, using Microsoft Office suite, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Experience creating interactive and/or multimedia learning materials using Canva, Adobe Spark, or any other design software.
  • Proficiency with computer applications and willingness to lean new programs (i.e., MS-Office Suite, Adobe Create Suite, content management systems, SharePoint, Video Editing software, and Google Analytics, Cascade, Brightspace).
  • Ability to prioritize and manage time and tasks with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated experience with record keeping and data entry.
  • Ability to problem solve by using judgement, independent thinking and/or analysis.
  • Ability to interpret policies and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and tailor communication style for different audiences.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Ability to adapt to changing work environments.
  • Experience composing various business communications such as emails, memos, and reports.
  • Experience scheduling meetings and calendar coordination.
  • Ability to provide effective customer service.
  • Experience with event planning and coordination.
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technology and processes.
  • Demonstrated experience with online publishing platforms/tools e.g., Pressbooks, WordPress, Canva, Manifold is considered and asset.


Specialized Knowledge/Education Secondary school diploma or equivalent.
