Overview

The Public Works Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and management of municipal public works operations to ensure the efficient delivery of essential services. This leadership role involves supervising staff, managing projects, and maintaining infrastructure related to water, sewer, roads, and public facilities. Duties

Develop and implement policies and procedures for public works operations in accordance with local regulations and standards. Supervise and evaluate staff involved in maintenance, construction, and repair activities across various departments. Plan, prioritize, and oversee projects related to road maintenance, water supply systems, sewer systems, and public facilities. Coordinate with contractors, vendors, and other government agencies to ensure timely completion of projects. Monitor budgets, prepare reports, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and environmental standards. Respond to public inquiries and concerns regarding infrastructure issues or service disruptions. Conduct inspections to assess infrastructure conditions and identify areas requiring maintenance or upgrades. Promote sustainable practices within public works operations to support environmental stewardship.

Skills

Proven leadership skills with experience managing teams in a municipal or similar setting. Strong knowledge of civil engineering principles, construction practices, and infrastructure management. Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple projects effectively. Effective communication skills for liaising with staff, government officials, contractors, and the community. Proficiency in project management software and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to analyze technical data and prepare comprehensive reports. Knowledge of safety protocols and environmental regulations relevant to public works activities. Nice-to-have skills include experience with budget management, strategic planning, and familiarity with local government operations.
