Public Works Operator - Temporary (6-Month Contract)

The Township of Stirling-Rawdon is a lower-tier municipality in Hastings County, Ontario. With a population of approximately 5,000, this friendly community is located just 15 minutes north of Belleville and directly north of Quinte West.

The Township is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Public Works Operator - Temporary (6-Month Contract) within the Public Works Department.

Reporting to the Public Works Manager, the Public Works Operator is responsible upkeep and maintenance of Township roads, public works buildings, and related equipment. The position involves operating a variety of heavy equipment--such as loaders, backhoes, and snow removal machinery--for road maintenance, construction, and winter control, as well as performing manual labour, equipment repairs, and other related duties.

This role requires sound judgment, the ability to work independently, and a commitment to working safely in variable and severe winter conditions. The successful candidate will be a dependable team member who contributes to maintaining safe and efficient winter road operations across the Township.

The preferred candidate will have:

Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) or equivalent.

Valid Class "D" driver's license with "Z" (Air Brake) endorsement and a satisfactory driver's abstract; Class "A" license is considered an asset.

Demonstrated experience operating snowplows and related winter control equipment.

Demonstrated experience in municipal road construction, maintenance, and/or public works operations.

Experience operating and maintaining heavy equipment, hand tools, and power equipment relevant to public works.

Demonstrated knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation (MTO Book 7).

Experience performing basic mechanical repairs and preventative maintenance on equipment.

Strong communication and record-keeping skills, with the ability to work independently and make sound decisions in changing weather conditions.

Wages: $26.39 per hour - CUPE Contract position
