The Cook is responsible for preparing high-quality meals in accordance with the Abbey's dietary guidelines, meal schedules, and hospitality standards. This role supports the Abbey's mission by ensuring nourishing and well-presented meals are served to residents, guests, and staff in a timely and organized manner.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, cook, and serve meals according to daily menus and dietary requirements.
Assist in menu planning, incorporating seasonal and locally sourced ingredients where possible.
Follow safe food handling, sanitation, and storage practices in compliance with food safety regulations.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of kitchen work areas, utensils, and equipment.
Work collaboratively with the Kitchen Supervisor to ensure meal service runs smoothly.
Monitor inventory levels, assist in ordering supplies, and minimize food waste.
Support special events or large group meals as needed.
Uphold the Abbey's values of hospitality, respect, and service.
Qualifications & Experience
Proven experience as a cook, preferably in an institutional, hospitality, or retreat setting.
Knowledge of various cooking techniques and dietary requirements (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free).
Food Safe Level 1 (or willingness to obtain).
Ability to work in a team-oriented environment and take direction from the Kitchen Supervisor.
Strong time organizational skills.
Physical ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs.
Must be able to pass a Criminal Record Check
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00-$21.50 per hour
Expected hours: 7 per week
