Foothills School Division (FSD) serves the learning needs of approximately 8000 students from preschool to grade 12. We operate 22 public schools, an online digital school, an alternative campus, and three colony schools. These are located in the towns of Okotoks, High River, and Diamond Valley, and the communities of Blackie, Cayley, Heritage Heights, Red Deer Lake, Longview, Millarville and Foothills County.

The Role



We are currently accepting applications for a permanent, full-time (1.0 FTE) Registered Psychologist based out of the Division Office in High River and serving students throughout the division. This position follows the schedule of the 10-month school calendar.


As part of the Inclusive Learning Team, the Registered Psychologist will be responsible for working collaboratively with students, families, school personnel and divisional professionals to support a variety of strategies in a safe and caring environment. They will also be responsible for building capacity and collaborating with school and divisional teams in the intervention and accommodations for students who are experiencing behavioural or social emotional difficulties that put them at risk of not achieving their full potential.

Primary Responsibilities:



Collaborate closely within a multi-disciplinary team to implement individualized behaviour support strategies and therapeutic interventions Provide individual and targeted counselling services for students experiencing emotional, behavioural, or social challenges Contribute to the development and implementation of Behaviour Support Plans, Individual Learning Plans, and Safety Plans Conduct informal needs assessments and risk assessments, and develop intervention strategies at the individual, targeted, and universal levels Monitor student progress and adapt interventions in collaboration with the school team and families Work alongside youth to develop and achieve therapy goals and strategies Collaborate and support with the creation and delivery of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) programming and instruction Provide clinical guidance and case consultation to staff Support school staff through modeling and coaching of trauma-informed and regulation strategies Contribute to screening, intake, and placement decisions for students accessing specialized supports Build strong partnerships with families, community agencies, and external service providers to support student mental health Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, and a wide range of intervention strategies to meet diverse needs Actively engage in ongoing professional development to remain current in best practices in school psychology and mental health Provide professional learning for school and divisional personnel to support learning, behavioural, and mental health needs of students Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records in accordance with ethical guidelines and Foothills School Division policies

Qualifications:



A master's degree in psychology and a minimum of two years of related experience Currently registered with the Alberta College of Psychologists Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with student, families, and staff Advanced skills in consultation, mentorship and collaboration Knowledge and experience in trauma-informed practices, SEL, risk assessment, positive behaviour supports and restorative practices Experience in a school-based setting preferred Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with students with moderate to severe social-emotional and mental health and behavioural challenges Ability to work within tight timelines Strong communication skills and the ability to present complex information to various audiences Familiarity with Alberta's educational system, policies, and community mental health resources will be an asset
