Job description

Akelius is seeking an Accountant to join the finance team.

The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual that is proactive, takes initiative, goal and results oriented, and works independently with minimal direction.

The accountant will oversee, audit, and analyze all financial matters specific to the assigned portfolio.

The successful individual will act as the financial specialist and primary facilitator of all financial matters for their assigned portfolio.

• analyze variances and prepare variance reports
• perform monthly income statement journal entries
• accrue invoices not received
• reconcile balance sheet accounts
• reconcile bank and internal credit cards
• answer other departments inquiries
• maintain the property management books
• review the A/R and A/P reports and general ledger.
• review preliminary monthly statements and generate financial statements to complete the monthly reporting package which includes all schedules (depreciation, Straight-line rent, prepaid, etc.)
• prepare monthly CAM (Common Area Maintenance) and Tax accruals
• prepare annual CAM (Common Area Maintenance) & final tax billing adjustments.
• prepare periodic journal entries, A/R adjustments, GST and HST reconciliation
• prepare monthly bank reconciliation
• review, reconcile and post monthly rent rolls
• prepare Annual Plans/quarterly reports including variance analysis
• other duties as assigned

Who you are

• 5+ years of Accountant experience is required
• bachelors degree in accounting or similar field
• experience with a US portfolio is a plus
• excellent communication, organizational, and attention to detail skills
• initiative to meet assigned goals, missions, and objectives
• proficient in the use of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and Outlook
• experience with Yardi Software is a plus
