Property Accountant

Job Description


We are looking for a detail-oriented Property Accountant to join our team in client's team with office in Oakville and Norwich, Ontario. In this role, you will manage a range of accounting functions to support property operations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with financial standards. You will collaborate closely with property managers, staff, and the Controller to deliver exceptional client service and maintain seamless daily operations.
Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and analyze financial reports, including operating statements and budget comparisons, to provide insights into property performance.
  • Conduct bank reconciliations and ensure all accounts are balanced and align with subledgers.
  • Manage corporate tax payments and filings, including HST calculations, to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments.
  • Respond to client and auditor inquiries regarding financial records and provide timely resolutions.
  • Coordinate data transfers and setup for new clients in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Assist in preparing proposals and conducting reviews for new client onboarding with the Controller.
  • Review payables with the accounting manager, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and timely cheque processing.
  • Support ad hoc accounting tasks and projects as assigned by senior leadership.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of tax, maintenance, and insurance considerations within the property management context.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, preferably within the real estate or property management industry.
  • Proficiency in accounts payable (AP), accounts receivable (AR), and accrual accounting processes.
  • Strong skills in financial reporting, bank reconciliations, and preparing income statements.
  • Experience with HST filings and corporate tax compliance.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with Yardi software.
  • Ability to manage accounting for multiple entities and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights.
