Job Description


PURPOSE This Property Accountant role will be a 1 year contract with potential for becoming a permanent role. The Property Accountant is accountable to the Manager, Accounting for the timely and accurate completion of all accounting activities for an assigned portfolio of residential properties, both owned by Morguard and third party managed for ensuring financial reporting is timely, accurate and is completed in compliance with company’s accounting policies and procedures. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. General Accounting Completes the day-to-day transactions (i.e. recording transactions to journals, keying in accruals, calculating bad debt provisions, tax reconciliation, CAM/TAX reconciliations etc.) that are a part of a full accounting cycle in order to maintain an accurate and transparent accounting process. 2. Accounts Reporting Produces a variety of financial reports/statements including but not limited to monthly/quarterly financial statement packages, annual budgets, etc. to ensure the adherence to statutory accounting principles that require the accurate reporting of the financial status of the organization. 3. External Reporting Assists Accounting Manager with the preparation of financial reports/statements and distributions for external users such as 3rd party portfolio property owners and joint venture partners, as well as annual reports for mortgage lenders, bank and property appraisers as needed. 4. Bank Reconciliations Completes bank reconciliations and addresses any outstanding discrepancies between bank and company statements in a proactive manner to ensure accuracy of statements. 5. Budgeting and Reforecasting Completes the accounting portion of the budget, as determined, as well as provides assistance, where required, in re-forecasting, variance analyses and reporting and budgeting activities, troubleshoots revenue modeling to support the accurate re-forecast and budgeting processes. 6. Support to Accounts Payable Assists Accounts Payable function for coding and accuracy. 7. Support to Annual Audit & Year-End Process Assists with year-end audit processes through the preparation of the head office/site accounting packages and the creation of the year-end file to ensure timely and accurate completion of all processes including year-end adjustments/billing for common area/operating costs and realty taxes. Any other job related duties and/or projects that may be assigned. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Skills, Knowledge, Experience and Education
  • College Diploma in Accounting or Business Administration
  • CGA designation or working towards an accounting designation is an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an accounting environment
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS office programs.
  • Good communication skills both verbal and written
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Previous exposure to Yardi Voyager system is an asset.
