Job Description


Robert Half is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Property Accountant to join our clients\' team. The Commercial Property Accountant will be responsible for managing and maintaining the financial records and reporting for their commercial property portfolio. This role involves performing accounting tasks, preparing financial statements, analyzing financial data, and ensuring compliance with relevant regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, exceptional analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of commercial property management.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day accounting activities for commercial properties, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger entries.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for commercial properties, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement in property performance and expenses.
  • Monitor and reconcile property-related bank accounts, ensuring accurate recording of transactions and timely resolution of discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with property managers to track and analyze property budgets, expenses, and cash flow.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and financial forecasts for commercial properties.
  • Coordinate with external auditors to provide necessary documentation and support during audits.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, including timely submission of tax returns and accurate calculation of property-related taxes.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of leases, rental agreements, and tenant information.
  • Monitor and analyze tenant receivables and follow up on delinquent accounts.
  • Provide financial information and reports to stakeholders, including property owners and management.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, accounting standards, and regulations related to commercial property accounting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field..
  • Proven work experience as a Property Accountant or similar role, preferably within the commercial real estate industry.
  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and experience in financial statement preparation.
  • Proficient in using accounting software and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and financial calculations.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and identify trends or anomalies.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with internal stakeholders, property managers, and external auditors.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of commercial property management and lease terms is a plus.
