The opportunity:



University of Manitoba Press publishes an award-winning list of scholarly books. Our titles are deeply researched works that investigate, illuminate, and challenge the status quo. We are seeking an enthusiastic, book-loving marketer to join our small team. The Publicity and Promotions Coordinator plays a key role in amplifying the work of the press through pitching our authors to media, nominating our books for awards, planning book launches and events, and driving sales of our books. This 18 month maternity-leave contract offers applicants the opportunity to gain experience within the Canadian publishing industry, contributing to the arts, culture, and intellectual life of Manitoba. The qualifications and experience we're looking for:



Completion of a formal training program in a related discipline from a recognized institution required. Undergraduate degree in a related field Preferred. Completion of a publishing program an asset. Three years experience in book promotion, marketing. or a related area is required. Familiarity with the TRC Calls to Action is an asset. An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. A knowledge of standard promotion and/public relations techniques is required. Familiarity with the book publishing industry is required. Must be able to work as a key part of a team that considers all aspects of publishing in order to reach the Press's editorial and financial goals. Proficiency in the use of a computer. preferably Macintosh required. Demonstrated experience in writing and preparing materials for marketing and/or promotion is required. Knowledge of website software and social media software and techniques is required. Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
