BIOVECTRA Inc. is a leading bio-science business in Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia, focused on contract manufacturing and product development of active pharmaceutical ingredients, pharmaceutical intermediates, and bioreagents.

BIOVECTRA Inc. has an opening for a Project Site Superintendent. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Windsor, NS.

The candidate will be responsible for:

  • Project Site Superintendent will be responsible for assigned duties related to the planning, procurement, execution and commissioning of infrastructure and equipment projects.
  • This position will supervise and direct contractors and tradespeople on the implementation, construction, and installation activities of capital projects, with a strong focus on workplace safety and quality, and ensure all projects are delivered to meet the project goals/charter, timelines, budgets and applicable quality standards (GMP, ICH, corporate) as well as the applicable regulatory legislation (OHS, CSA, NFPA, CEPA, etc.)
  • Supervision of contractors and tradespeople for capital projects implementation, with oversight of several trades at any one time, including 20+ individual workers; responsible for site safety, work prioritization and allocation, quality workmanship, and material and labor accountability, while managing workers on several projects simultaneously.
  • Ensure contractor adherence to safe work practices in accordance with the Provincial Occupational Health & Safety Act & Regulations and corporate procedures, including, but not limited to, fall protection, scaffolding, working alone, hot work, confined space.
  • Participate in project design activities, equipment specifications and selection, pre-construction budgets and estimates, piping and installation work plans, commissioning, and qualification programs.
  • Administrative duties of change orders, project documentation, materials procurement, and time & materials billings.
  • Proactively improve the installation process for quality and efficiency.
  • Proactively identify and resolve deficiencies and conflicts, schedule concerns and other project specific issues, and coordinate with internal groups to minimize impact on existing operations.
  • Provide routine reports on project installation progress, schedule, and budget impacts.
  • Keep the job site organized and clean, while handling daily site access and security.
  • Coordinate inspections and obtain permits.
  • Prepare equipment for crating, moving, and storage.
  • Adhering to BIOVECTRA's Health and Safety Policy as outlined in CP0010 Occupational Health and Safety Policy, Statements of Principle, and Responsibilities.
  • Additional duties as assigned, based on business needs.
The successful candidate for this position should have:
  • Grade 12 education
  • Technical diploma or background in construction and industrial project management.
  • Minimum five years of contractor supervisory experience in a manufacturing industry.
  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing operations within a strict, GMP quality system.
  • Minimum three years' experience in capital project installations including planning, scheduling, estimating, multi-party coordination, inspection, and commissioning.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and review technical drawings, plans, and specifications.
  • Knowledge of the Provincial OH&S Act & Regulations and experience managing staff and contractor safe work practices, including working from elevations and with cranes.
  • Advanced problem solving, project coordination skills and the ability to exercise independent judgement in dealing with technical matters.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to ask and answer questions effectively, and collaborate with coworkers, consultants and contractors.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and familiarity with CAD software.
  • A valid driver's license and ability to operate a forklift, yard lift and telescopic boom lift.
  • Red Seal Trade or CET/MET is considered an asset.
  • Budgetary accountability with a track record of managing small projects.
  • Experience in Chemical or Pharmaceutical Manufacturing is considered an Asset.
