Job Overview

Construction Planner will be responsible to plan and estimate all capital construction projects by retrieving and collecting all relevant information and presenting it in such manner that the work can be executed expediently and as cost effective as possible. To do this well they must have strong technical, interpersonal, communication, computer and self-management skills.

Key Accountabilities

  • Create high quality field execution plans that account for the correct people, equipment, materials and services to perform work in a safe, efficient and cost-effective manner
  • Develop plans based on priority and risk rank
  • Provide feedback to the project team during constructability reviews and/or flag any constraints that prevent planning as requested.
  • Field verify the construction packages such that they can be planned effectively, and are environmentally, health and safety conscious
  • Prepare structured job plans with effective breakdown of the work required including all operation steps and duration, resources, all relevant documentation, and planned cost
  • Continuously seek improvement by soliciting feedback from a variety of stakeholders both during the planning process and following work execution.
  • Understand and apply Suncor standards, other applicable standards / policies / procedures, and updates.
Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:
  • Five or more years of planning or coordinating maintenance, turnaround or construction field activities
  • Experience in the oil and gas or similar industrial environment preferred
  • Trade certification or technical/mechanical background
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver\xe2\x80\x99s license and a clean driving record
Skills and Knowledge:
  • Mechanical aptitude \xe2\x80\x93 at a minimum in your trade or discipline, but demonstrated multi-trade knowledge is an asset
  • Computer proficiency specifically in the Microsoft Office suite
  • Working knowledge of computerized maintenance management systems (preferably SAP and/or Primavera) and material management systems
  • Deep understanding of construction planning and scheduling concepts
  • General technical understanding of the oil and gas industry and mechanical equipment;
  • You constantly interact with others across a multitude of business units and effectively communicate with them to develop positive working relationships
  • You\xe2\x80\x99re highly motivated and continually seek greater knowledge about the systems, processes and hazards in the workplace, in order to understand not just what you do but why you do it
Working Conditions
  • The position is mainly office based but there is an expectation for field verification of plans. Will include climbing and exposure to all weather conditions.
