Our Signals and Communications - Projects office, part of the Asset Management & Maintenance division is looking for a Project Manager to manage new and ongoing State of Good Repair (SOGR) projects associated with Metrolinx railway corridors including the planning scope, design, procurement, construction and commissioning phases. The program includes a variety of projects to improve the overall quality, safety and efficiency of signalling throughout the entire GO Transit rail network.What will I be doing?
  • Manage staff (Project coordinators, Junior Project Coordinators and Engineering Graduate Trainee) engaged in all stages of project management to implement various railway signalling asset replacements and enhancements.
  • Manage Contractor and Consultant expectations while keeping in line with the project needs.
  • Manage project progress and provide analysis of current and future work activities to identify deficiencies and opportunities for efficiencies, as well as recommend and implement solutions for new and exiting SOGR projects.
  • Ensure project delivery is in accordance with scope, quality assurance and safety requirements as well as cost and schedule.
  • Report project status and trends to Senior Management including project governance, finance, risk and scheduling.
  • Monitor and report on project safety. Identify issues and mitigate risks and collaborate with stakeholders to ensure corrective actions are implemented.
  • Negotiate fees, cost sharing agreements, approvals, and contractual claims.
  • Develop annual and multi-year budgets and schedules for management approval and managing capital projects and programs accordingly.
  • Work with Asset Management, Operations, Maintenance Delivery and Workblock teams to commission and transition infrastructure work, ensuring all acceptance criteria are fulfilled and required documentation are delivered prior to final signature for acceptance and handover to Operations.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
  • A university degree in applied science, engineering from a recognized university or a related discipline, or any combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated project management experience related to the planning, design, and construction of Signalling and Communications Projects and related works.
  • Experience in managing construction projects from initiation to close out; Knowledge in procurement processes to identify opportunities for improvements and cost savings.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Signals and Communications (S&C) projects and S&C processes, and standards (e.g., AREMA, Transport Canada) is an asset.
  • Knowledge of Contract Law and standard contract forms and types, the Construction Act, and the Occupational Health & Safety Act of Ontario.
  • Excellent analytical ability, communication skills, negotiation skills to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • A valid Ontario Class G driver's license that meets the corporate standard for a good driving record is required to travel to various site locations, meetings, and operational facilities.
