Position Description





Project Manager \xe2\x80\x93 Operational Readiness \xe2\x80\x93 Patient Support Centre - 14 months contract (potential for contract extension) The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) has initiated a major campus redevelopment project known as Project Horizon (PH). This is a multi-year multi-phase project that involves the construction of two new facilities: an administrative office building known as the Patient Support Centre (PSC) and a clinical care building known as the Patient Care Centre (PCC). Along with the construction of these two new buildings, The Early Works phases of the project includes renovation, infrastructure, and demolition projects and the complete renovation and expansion of the Burton Wing. The Operational Readiness team is critical to managing the direct and indirect impact of the project on the people experience (for patients and their families/caregivers, staff, students, and volunteers). Project Horizon is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Project Manager to join the Operational Readiness team for the PSC phase of the project for 14 months (potential for contract extension), reporting into the Director, Change Engagement and Work Experience, and working closely with the Senior Project Manager. This role will be responsible for supporting Operational Readiness and Transformation Initiatives of the PSC, and will require leadership, compassion, collaboration, and negotiation skills, who can lead with a can-do attitude, and can manage the project activities in a timely manner. This role will be integral to identifying, defining, organizing, and implementing the deliverables and tasks that are required for the activation and occupation of new spaces in a logical, timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.   • Participate in the application of the Operational Readiness and Transition Planning Roadmap and promote consistency of project management and change engagement best practices
  • Work closely with the Senior Project Manager, Operational Readiness and Transition Planning to assist in the development and maintenance of the project documents and tools e.g. Project Work Plan, Project logs, and assisting in the development or review of guidelines, policies, templates, forms and Intranet information to support project activities and processes
  • Assist the Programs and Services to optimize the goals of the redevelopment project, by leading and/or facilitating working groups by liaising between the Program Champions and the Operational Readiness team to drive the project plan for the assigned areas
  • Collaborate and meet with users and Program Change Champions to evaluate their needs, investigate options, and make high level recommendations on approaches to resolve their needs or challenges within the scope of the project
  • Identify potential risks related to the operational readiness and transition planning and coordinate the mitigation plans with the respective teams
  • Contribute to the Operational Readiness Steering Committee by providing status reporting and a loop back on decisions and direction from the committee to the assigned areas
  • Work closely with the working group leads and project Leads to ensure objectives of each meeting are complete and follow up items are documented
  • Communicate project results to the Director, Senior Project Manager and key shareholders, and makes recommendations to project shareholders (as appropriate) regarding the long-term implementation of project initiatives based on learning gained during the project lifecycle
Relationship Management
  • Act as an ambassador for Project Horizon and PSC Operational Readiness to internal shareholders
  • Apply effective facilitation, communication, and negotiations skills
  • Work closely with program leaders and key shareholders from the following areas in the development, implementation, and monitoring of program-specific operational readiness plans:
    • Technical Leads and Facilities to ensure continued alignment of operational readiness to project deliverables
    • Communication team to ensure implementation of communication plan for the internal shareholder groups, and identify new communication need working closely with the Program Champions
    • Change Engagement team to ensure that change engagement best practices are proactively integrated into the operational readiness workplans
    • The Move Lead to ensure timely knowledge transfer to the user community in preparation for transition and move planning
    • The Training and Orientation Manager to ensure the needs of the user groups are articulated in the plan and assist in the coordination of training and orientation schedules
    • Horizon Tech to ensure that programs are prepared for technological change
    • Infection Control and Occupational Hygiene to ensure continual safety and quality standards are met
  • Liaise with other teams and committees at SickKids
Complexities
  • The complexity of small operational and strategic projects needs to be managed with diligence, diplomacy and developing project management skills
  • The role requires developing project management, scheduling, risk mitigation, communication, facilitation, relationship management, negotiation, influencing, collaboration and analytical skills to successfully manage projects of medium to high complexity and scope
  • The role requires developing an interest and knowledge of the future state of healthcare delivery, value-based delivery, technological trends, patient engagement and participation. The role requires translation of this knowledge and challenging assumptions and norms for the purpose of transforming delivery of care
Here\'s What You\'ll Need
  • Degree or Diploma in a related field (e.g. Healthcare related discipline, Architecture, Planning, Business Administration, Science or related discipline)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of project management processes and methodologies required and Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is preferred
  • Experience supporting Operational Readiness in a hospital redevelopment project preferred, experience engaging interprofessional and multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills with the ability to engage, motivate and lead small to large teams, resolve team conflicts and work collaboratively to achieve overarching project goals
  • Advanced application of project management software tools (e.g. Microsoft Project) and a strong level of competency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong advocacy for patient and family centered design
  • Good communication, facilitation with solid sense of confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to balance and integrate the needs of interested parties into strategies and solutions that align with the Hospital\xe2\x80\x99s strategic directions and Project Horizon objectives, and meet program/ department/ portfolio requirements
  • Ability to work under pressure with competing deadlines, and successfully manage in a complex, fast-paced environment with multiple and shifting priorities
  • Excellent administrative skills, record keeping, monitoring and organizational skills
Employment Type Full-Time, 14 month Contract (35 hours/week)
