The Project Manager has overall responsibility and accountability for the completion of assigned projects/programs meeting the scope, schedule, cost, and HSE requirements. This is achieved by the Project Manager providing critical leadership to the project and project team members, ensuring detailed project plans are in developed and in place, daily/weekly/monthly measurement of project\'s progress to plan, effective interaction with customers and regulators, and transparency and reporting of the project\'s progress to the Project Sponsor and management team.

What You Get to Do:

  • Lead, develop and coordinate the project business case, funding approvals, scope of work, cost estimate, schedule, success measures
  • Throughout the course of the project/program, the Project Manager leads the project team to monitor progress, identify critical activities, maintain budget and schedule, coordinate change approvals, and resolve issues
  • Lead and direct Planning, Engineering, Procurement and Construction activities among multiple project/program teams
  • During the execution phase, ensure all aspects of the scope of work, HSE and other legal requirements are met. Review and monitor the work process to ensure all internal and external processes are in compliance to existing standards
  • Identify all the significant project/program risks, prepare mitigation plan, track and manage the risks and contingencies as they develop. Ensure all key documents are properly kept and identified in the document management system
  • Act as the single point of contact for the project/program, ensuring there is good communication within the team members and external parties which includes Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) and customers regarding scope, schedule and budget, especially for any materialistic changes
  • Identify and ensure procurement of all long-term delivery equipment. Monitor all critical path material delivery status, expedite and find substitutes for unavailable equipment
  • Work with Procurement to strategize contracting, monitor delivery of long-lead items, expedite deliverables, identify substitutions, and resolve contractual issues or disputes
  • Ensure Lessons Learned are collected and used to suggest enhancements to process and methodology
Qualifications:
  • Degree in Engineering preferred. A Commerce or Business Degree may be considered
  • Professional Engineer or Registered Engineering Technologist is preferred
  • Must be eligible for PMP designation within 6 months
  • Minimum 5 years of project-related experience. Less experience may be considered for the right candidate
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and establish strong and collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Superior analytical, problem-solving, negotiation and decision-making skills
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough understanding HSE policies and regulations, PMI methodology, contracts and procurement process, project cost estimating, forecasting and scheduling processes
  • Be able to effectively deal with external parties i.e. consultants, customers, government agencies
  • Familiar with project management tools including Unifier, P6, MS Project, SharePoint, etc.
