The De Beers Group has an exciting opportunity with the Mineral Resource Team on the Chidliak Project in the Canadian Arctic. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Project Field Geologist will support drilling operations at a remote field site. The successful candidates will have experience with core drilling at a remote site and have a knowledge of kimberlite geology. You will be required to spend up to six (6) weeks at a time in the field collecting and capturing geological data and assisting the Project Manager in various operational tasks. This is a temporary role of three to four months with flexible start dates in June 2023 and potential for contract extension.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Administering and monitoring the core drilling operations on site: data capture, entry, and QA/QC of field data in relation to drill locations, depth and angle of drilling;
  • Drill core sample collection and handling: core logging, analyzing, data capture, sample collection and data quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC);
  • Data Analysis: monitoring drilling data lithology on a regular basis to guide the drilling plan;
  • Reporting and documentation: record all aspects of the drilling program and report on daily progress;
  • Ensuring that all relevant De Beers policies and procedures are followed;
  • Participating in daily toolbox talks and camp operations; and
  • Contributing positively to the culture of safety, health and environment (SHE).
Qualifications
  • Geology (Earth Sciences) Degree;
  • Minimum of 5 years of field experience;
  • Experience in core sampling and collection;
  • Knowledge of kimberlite geology and diamond exploration;
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills;
  • Demonstrated computer aptitude with proficiency in MS Word and Excel;
  • Ability to work independently at remote sites and a keen interest in outdoor pursuits;
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills;
  • Attention to detail and ability to work with precision;
  • Valid driver\'s license; and
  • First aid training would be an asset.
Other requirements:
  • Ability to travel to remote locations for an extended period of time; and
  • Ability to work remotely from a home office when required.
