Project Estimator Subsurface Utility Engineering (sue) *12 Month Contract*

Job Description

The Estimator role is responsible for preparing pricing, estimates, quotations, and proposals relative to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation Services with the goal of successfully securing projects for the Company to execute on.This will be a 12-month full-time, temporary contract opportunity and is a Hybrid position (currently 1 day per week in office required).We are seeking a candidate specifically with exposure and knowledge relating to Subsurface Utilities Engineering (SUE).Responsibilities:

  • Collect, organize, and analyze utility information and client provided plans, specifications, and calculate associated costs in order to prepare quotations.
  • Perform and attend bid walks, and site meets to support the process of pricing and where required by the RFP, RFQ, Tender, etc.
  • Prepare estimates, quotations, and proposals for various scaled projects related to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Investigation Services.
  • Quotations for submission include determining costs for - labour, equipment, material, rentals, and subcontractors, etc.
  • Prepare and determine proposed schedules and durations for tasks priced within the quotation.
  • File, organize, and manage various documents related to Contracts and Agreements.
  • Coordinate pricing requests from vendors, suppliers, subcontractors according to the scope of work and incorporate them into the pricing.
  • Solicit, receive, and review quotes from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Negotiate pricing received by suppliers and subcontractors for supporting services and products.
  • Support and ensures projects are planned and organized according to Company commitments and budget estimates.
  • Liaison with the various customer contacts on all day to day basis related to the Project Request requirements, questions, and be able to provide solutions.
  • Monitor and track awarded quotations and proposals and follow-up on submissions.
  • Maintain proper communication between all stakeholders involved on the project.
  • Review and analyze the project performance and/or productivity with the Senior Manager, and Project Manager(s) in support of improving estimates based on actual results.
  • Support the Management team to ensures financial KPI's are followed and met.
  • Drive positive relationships with Clients, Consultants and key subcontractors.
  • Search identify and analyze potential new business with existing customers and research for new clients.
  • Analyze market trends, and support Management with Business Development.
  • Research and review available public RFP's, RFQ's, and Tenders online via various bidding sites.
  • Familiar with CI/ASCE 38-02 SUE Standard.
  • Any and all other duties as assigned in order to meet Company objectives.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering, or Diploma in Civil, Mechanical, Architectural, and/or Construction Management is an asset.
  • Minimum High School Graduation Diploma with job related experience, and completion of a post-secondary education is highly preferred.
  • Minimum of 1 - 3 years of experience in estimating relative to Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) Services and/or relevant administrative work experience in a SUE environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) and the "Standard Guideline for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data" - CI/ASCE 38-02.
  • Understanding of SUE Quality Levels D through A.
  • Knowledge and experience with construction specifications, practices, costs and estimating techniques.
  • Possess strong computer skills (experience with Microsoft Office Software's: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)
  • Ability to read and interpret utility / construction plans and specifications.
  • Highly organized and a keen attention to detail.
  • Effective and excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to recognize and resolve discrepancies.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to set priorities and meet objectives.
  • Ability to multitask and adapt to changing priorities.
  • Comfortable working under pressure and under tight deadlines.
  • Strength in Mathematics.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently.
