Position: Project Engineer (Transmission & Distribution)Division: Utilities and EnvironmentDepartment: Saskatoon Light & PowerTerm: 1 Permanent Full Time position available.Closing Date: 06/28/2024Labour Group: SCMMAPosting: 3386Job SummaryThis position performs professional electrical engineering work involving design and project management in relation to distribution, substation and street lighting facilities.Duties & Responsibilities

  • Designs various electrical facilities, such as systems for overhead and underground distribution, transmission, street lighting, secondary networks, substations, communication systems, protection and control.
  • Prepares work orders, plans, specifications and schedules for the supply of materials, equipment, consulting services and contractor services for construction projects.
  • Evaluates tenders and proposals and makes recommendations regarding the award of supply contracts.
  • Manages various projects and contracted services to ensure adherence to plans, terms, budgets and time schedules, including preparing related reports.
  • Coordinates project work with the requirements of other utilities, agencies and authorities having jurisdiction, including ensuring necessary jurisdiction approvals are obtained.
  • Establishes and maintains construction standards.
  • Deals with contractors, major equipment and material suppliers and consultants regarding technical matters relating to the acquisition of materials equipment and services and the provision of electrical services to customers.
  • Supervises other technical staff as assigned.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Degree in electrical engineering.
  • Three years\' experience in electric utility distribution and transmission, substation and street lighting system design.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan.
  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques involved in the design, construction and general operation of electrical distribution, transmission and street lighting systems.
  • Ability to analyze, evaluate and prepare a variety of reports, plans and specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
