Project Coordinator, HAWC CFIPrimary Purpose: The Project Coordinator is a collaborative and integral member of the High-altitude Aerosols, Water vapour and Clouds (HAWC) satellite mission in the Department of Physics and Engineering Physics. This position is accountable for managing processes on the Canadian Foundation for Innovation (CFI) funded HAWC project. Reporting to the Principal Investigators and lead Project Manager, the position provides key financial, writing, management and general support and is responsible for monitoring the progress and success of the research project. They will coordinate activities between the universities (including both researchers and administrators), manage financial reporting, and support the Executive Committee and five other committees in the HAWC governance structure.You are an enthusiastic, organized, independent, and creative individual with a passion for science and innovation, and an excellent communicator both written and orally. You will be asked to draft compelling arguments for budget justifications, annual reports and scope changes. You know and understand institutional and funding agency policy and can operate effectively in these environments. You have a keen eye for detail, and you understand the importance of oversight and active management in delivering impactful outcomes of the research project.There is a significant financial and accounting component to this role. The person holding this position ensures the effective oversight and facilitation of activity with external partners, assessing potential risks, monitoring timelines and ensuring that all relevant parties are informed. Ongoing monitoring of deliverables is crucial to ensure potential bottlenecks and roadblocks are identified and appropriate actions formulated and implemented for resolution.This individual works with others from the RASI CFI team, Financial Operations, Infrastructure, Planning and Land Development, Enterprise Project Management Office, Procurement, and USask Colleges, Schools and Centres to support completion and success of the project. Working with CFI and other funding agencies is required and extreme professionalism, sound judgement and problem-solving skills will need to be regularly demonstrated.Nature of Work: The successful candidate will be required to handle confidential information in a sensitive manner and communicate clearly, effectively and collaboratively with a diverse staff and student population. This position has an annual cycle which aligns with the government fiscal year.Typical Duties or Accountabilities:The successful candidate will perform tasks including but not limited to:

  • Provide proactive, high-quality support to the HAWC Principal Investigators (PIs).
  • Coordinate administrative functions of the project including human resources, internal and external communications, management meetings, conferences, relationships with partner institutions, intellectual property.
  • Oversee and manage the HAWC CFI project budget. Proactively identify changes and issues and work with the project team to bring forward solutions that mitigate risk and optimize scientific outcomes.
  • Assist project team in preparing and submitting high quality reports, meeting minutes, summaries and assure deadlines are met.
  • Work with the Associate Director, RASI, and PIs to maintain financial and milestone accountability for the project\'s schedule and ensure that project goals are met in a timely and fiscally responsible manner.
  • Cultivate and nurture relationships, facilitate interactions, and communicate effectively with project partners, collaborators, academics, receptors, and stakeholders and various committees for the development and competition of CFI projects.
  • Manage and maintain records for tracking research project activity using university standard methods (e.g. Banner, FAST, UnivRS, other database, hard copy), providing management information and ensuring a clear audit trail.
  • Develop compelling arguments for budget justifications, annual reports and scope changes.
  • Act as a liaison with CFI and other funding agencies and partners as needed.
Education: Strong background in engineering or accounting or finance and/or project management; Undergraduate and at least five years professional work experience in project management.Licenses: Project Management Professional certification would be an assetExperience: Minimum of five years professional work experience in project management and administration. Familiarity with University of Saskatchewan financial reporting systems such as FAST, Banner, etc. will be considered an asset.Skills:
  • Knowledge of the Canadian research and innovation community
