The primary focus of this position will be to provide coordination for the UBC Action on Sepsis Research Cluster and the Pediatric Sepsis Data Colaboratory (Sepsis CoLab). The coordinating department for these projects are located in the Department of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology & Therapeutics on-site at the Institute for Global Health at BC Children\xe2\x80\x99s and Women\'s Hospitals (C&W). The Action on Sepsis Research Cluster is a trans-disciplinary research group tackling the issue of sepsis, and works closely and collaboratively with investigators and staff at IGH to advocate for improved sepsis care across BC, Canada and globally. The Sepsis Colab is an international data-sharing network of healthcare workers, policy makers, researchers, and advocacy partners collaborating to address the high burden of pediatric sepsis mortality and morbidity globally. The incumbent will work provide research coordination support and coordinate knowledge translation & outreach activities for both of these Sepsis network projects. The incumbent must be highly organized and detail orientated.Organizational Status
The incumbent reports to the Strategic Lead, Global Health Research Development and the Principal Investigator. The incumbent has working relationships with faculty, staff and students at C&W, its related research institutes, UBC, and external partners.Work Performed

  • Keeps track of research metrics (e.g. grants, awards, publications) for reporting funders and external partners
  • Maintains, updates, and supports in the curation of the Sepsis CoLab Data repository using the University of British Columbia\xe2\x80\x99s Dataverse on Borealis - a secure virtual archive for research and QI data with a rigorous data governance structure. Coordinates the sharing and distribution of guidelines, readiness assessment tools, algorithms, draft quality improvement (QI) and ethics applications, datasets, metadata and other materials.
  • Works under the direction of supervisors to coordinate and prepare grant submissions and strategic planning documents and incorporate feedback from network (AOS and CoLab) members;
  • Coordinate and follow-up on action items resulting from meetings and activities in a timely and high quality manner;
  • Contribute to the preparation and development of reports, academic papers, policy papers, press releases, presentations, and grant applications;
  • Promoting the Sepsis CoLab and Action on Sepsis through various communication channels
  • Assists with external communications including maintenance of webpages, writing newsletters and reports, and posting on social media sites;
  • With a high degree of attention to detail and organization, performs research related administrative duties, including scheduling research meetings and writing meeting minutes;
  • Provides Action on Sepsis Patient Advisory Council with research activity support, conducting pre-/post-meeting briefings, and facilitating engagement with researchers and health system partners;
  • Coordinates applications to the Sepsis CoLab and facilities data sharing requests based on the Sepsis Colab\xe2\x80\x99s data governance requirements
  • Coordinate the development and implementation of the Sepsis CoLab Strategic Plan as envisioned by the Steering Committee;
  • Support the development and implementation of the Sepsis National Action Plan as envisioned by the AOS research cluster members, patient partners and other stakeholders;
  • Provides support for research and knowledge translation event planning, including maintaining and updating event agendas, copy-editing documents prior to distribution, liaising with speakers prior to the event, and facilitating participation through Zoom;
  • Troubleshoot complex problems inherent to coordinating multiple partners and researchers
  • Other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Failure to plan or follow up on initiatives and poor judgment or errors dealing with such matters would have an adverse effect on the productivity and operational management of the Action on Sepsis Research Cluster. Ability to work collaboratively and exercise sound judgment in dealing with administrative matters where there are no established policies, procedures or guidelines is essential. Failure to act in a professional, tactful manner would have an adverse effect on campus and community relations. Inadequate documentation, organization, communication, and planning may adversely affect the image and reputation of UBC, IGH, or its constituent Investigators and research groups.Supervision Received
This position will report to the Strategic Lead, Global Health Research Development. The incumbent will also work closely with the Principal Investigators. The Project Coordinator must be able to work independently.Supervision Given
Supervision of students and new staff is provided in the context of orientation and operational procedures.Minimum Qualifications
Completion of a relevant technical program or a university degree in a relevant discipline and a minimum three years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.- Willingness to respect diverse perspectives, including perspectives in conflict with one\xe2\x80\x99s own- Demonstrates a commitment to enhancing one\xe2\x80\x99s own awareness, knowledge, and skills related to equity, diversity, and inclusionPreferred QualificationsUndergraduate degree in a relevant discipline in public health or the life sciences, such as biology or psychology. High degree of organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task. Experience working with clinicians and researchers within an academic community is strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team are essential. Ability to independently prioritize and organize work load. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, basic graphic design, and basic webpage maintenance is required.
