This position provides the option to work from home on Mondays and Fridays each week, with the requirement to report to the primary NOVA Chemicals work location on Tuesdays through Thursdays. Employees can opt out of the hybrid schedule and will be expected to work Monday-Friday from the primary work location.

To propel NOVA Chemicals towards these goals, the Innovation organization is committed to deliver critical new breakthroughs and step-change improvements across the five pillars of our 2030 strategy and priorities.To deliver on the strategy, we are seeking a Research and Development Program Manager to de-risk and accelerate critical projects. In this role you will focus on orchestrating work for a major technology development program. We are seeking a passionate individual that will provide a strong level of technical leadership and coordination, full-time dedication, and integration for cross-functional complex development and commercialization for a range of technology development programs. You will ideally be a seasoned and influential program manager that will form a team comprised of required disciplines for the time span of the technology program and have end-to-end accountability for accelerating technology programs towards successful commercialization.You Will Use Your Expertise To:
Clearly define project objectives, build business cases, and be accountable for delivering the project scope within time and budget.
Carry out analysis of alternatives and lead the selection of the optimum solution.
Assemble, lead, and develop project team(s) and secure additional project resources under a standard agreement.
Work directly with the team members, motivate them, give them feedback, direction, vision, and make sure that the project is staffed and skilled appropriately.
Provide an overall review of the project team\'s work for fit with design intent, completeness of project documentation and conformance with established processes.
Risk manage and actively follow up on projects, including implement mitigation actions, effectively manage changes in projects and necessary escalations.
Provide effective stakeholder management with different functions internally as well as externally, including facilitation of team and stakeholder meetings.
Ensure the application of project management processes and techniques throughout the entire project life cycle.
Understand needs and types of agreements/contracts with external partners.
Interface closely with NOVA Chemicals Engineering, Sales and Marketing, Operations, Legal or other internal / external parties to ensure effective technology transfer.
Develop cross-functional strategy for acceleration of Innovation for key Innovation programs.
Lead major programs from across Innovation\'s priority areas with extended and challenging cross-functional structures that may involve leveraging of resources across multiple projects and/or liaison with external Venture programs.
Identify and gather relevant inputs and builds complex business cases to allow benefit and cost analysis of projects.
Resolve major project issues and roadblocks (e.g., resource management, safety, environment, technology)
Build ownership among core team members on large, extended projects and demonstrate flexibility in bringing additional resources in and out as required.
Identify opportunities for improving project management systems, processes, and techniques.
What We Are Looking For:
Bachelor of Science/Engineering degree with 10+ years of related experience or Ph.D. with 8+ years of experience.
Extensive experience with leading various large sized cross-functional technology / product commercialization projects.
Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset.
Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver and implement large research projects.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage multiple projects effectively and of varying size through various stages of the project life cycle including commissioning and start up.
Experience and capability to effectively negotiate and manage contracts.
Strong business analysis and decision-making skills.
Excellent interpersonal communication, leadership, and conflict resolution skills.
Experience and capability to manage project uncertainty proactively and effectively through accurate risk identification and management, and design mitigation/contingency strategies.
Experience and capability to coach and develop high-performing teams and individuals.
Demonstrated capability to manage multi-discipline teams and achieve results through others.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, and PowerPoint.
Working knowledge of common information management systems.
