Program Lead, Peer Support & Youth Programs

CNIB invites you to build a career as unique as you! We are currently searching for a Program Lead, Peer Support & Youth Programs! Reporting to the Manager, CNIB Programs, NS & PEI, the Program Lead will be responsible for planning and implementing CNIB recreation, peer support, and children & youth programs in Nova Scotia as well as promoting CNIB programs to clients and the general public. The Program Lead will also work to develop and execute public awareness programs to help inform about and change attitudes towards people with sight loss.

Your impact at CNIB

  • Oversee the delivery of peer support programs including mentorships and structured workshops.
  • Host in-person and virtual social and recreation events to create peer support opportunities, while providing real life opportunities to practice new skills; oversee the \xe2\x80\x9cCNIB Play Library\xe2\x80\x9d encouraging people to borrow and try accessible toys, games, and sports equipment.
  • Plan, promote, and implement events and retreats that inspire young people with sight loss to follow their dreams, while giving them concrete ideas, experiences, and skills
  • Work with CNIB\xe2\x80\x99s Come to Work program to support career exploration, preparation and development as part of Children & Youth programming.
  • Train, engage and support blind and partially sighted Nova Scotians as Ambassadors to raise awareness of sight loss issues.
Requirements

Who you are:
  • Experience in creating impactful and engaging programs with a participant focus, ideally related to recreation and/or peer support.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills when communicating with a diverse audience; you must be passionate about working with both young people and seniors!
  • The ability to meaningfully engage volunteers, ensuring they have the resources, training, and motivation they need to be successful.
  • The skills to distill information and present it during engaging and informative presentations and training workshops.
  • A demonstrated understanding and track record of championing diversity and accessibility issues.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven time management, planning, coordinating and organization skills; proactive in initiating multiple projects on an ongoing basis.
  • Professional attitude, results-oriented, strategic and flexible.
  • Proficient in using virtual platforms like Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
We want to hear from you if you have:
  • 1-3 years of experience in either program development and delivery or counselling in a peer support/group setting.
  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Lived or professional experience relating to sight loss is an asset.
  • Knowledge and experience working in a not-for-profit or charity is an asset.
  • Knowledge of adaptive technology is an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience relating to blindness and sight loss is considered an asset.
  • Personal or professional experience working with assistive technology and/or accessible environments is considered an asset.
Work Environment
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (including evenings as needed).
  • Moderate travel will be required; a driver\xe2\x80\x99s license is not required.
  • Working in an office with some occasional \xe2\x80\x9cwork from home\xe2\x80\x9d days.
