The Family Peer Support Worker (FPSW) is an essential member of a transformed, integrated, recovery-oriented treatment team. Young Adult Services in the Edmonton Zone is looking for an individual to share their expertise and personal experiences supporting a loved one in the context of empowering others and inspiring hope. Supporting who clients define as their family or primary support people is a crucial component to successful treatment. The FPSW works in conjunction with the Young Adult Services Family Therapist to provide support, hope and empowerment. The FPSW provides interventions and supports that are complimentary to clinical services by providing emotional and social support to those who share a common experience. Through their own lived experience of directly supporting a loved one through recovery, the FPSW can authentically inspire hope and demonstrate the possibility of recovery and resilience to family members experiencing similar situations. In this role, you will see families or chosen supporters of young adults in both clinic and community settings, and you will provide services such as 1-1 support and facilitate group programming and liaise and collaborate with other team members to improve outcomes for individuals and their families. The FPSW will bring together families, supports and systems together to enhance service provision and find solutions where challenges may exist. This knowledgeable and trained worker utilizes their own lived experience supporting a loved one to provide family peer support, mentoring, system navigation, advocacy and education. The FPSW will work closely with systems to enhance the awareness of the needs of families and support from a strengths-based approach to promote inclusive care. The ability to engage families, meet them where they are at and build trusting relationships is an important component of this role.
Description:
As a Peer Support Worker, you will provide interventions and supports that are complementary to the work of a multi-disciplinary outreach team. The team functions together to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services for the diverse needs of clients navigating life impacting experiences. Through your own lived experience(s), and experiences of recovery and resilience, as the Peer Support Worker, you can authentically inspire hope to clients by sharing your story, offering mentorship and support; advocating for client needs; and supporting an integrated and resiliency/recovery-oriented health care and treatment experience.
