Program Facilitator - Life Skills



(Permanent Full-time 35 hours per week)



Bargaining Unit Position



The Program Facilitator for Life Skills plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining strong relationships with various stakeholders to increase awareness and support for the Youth Transitional Housing and Shelter Program (YTHSP) and Youth Advisory Committee (YAC). This role involves two primary responsibilities: developing and facilitating client programming and establishing and sustaining community partnerships. The Program Facilitator is responsible for enhancing the capacity, self-esteem, and overall wellness of youth residents through tailored programming aimed at developing essential life skills. This position operates within an Afrocentric and strengths-based relationship-based care framework, emphasizing resilience and empowerment among youth.

Highlights of Your Role



Client Programming:



Develop and implement Afrocentric programming and volunteer opportunities for youth residents, aligning with their programing and housing goals. Conduct applied research, focus groups, and needs assessments to determine client support and programming needs. Coordinate and facilitate life skills programming such as financial literacy, employment skills, health, and mental wellness.

Community Partnerships:



Develop and sustain relationships with community organizations and groups to enhance life skill programming and services at YTHSP. Promote positive community relations and inclusivity between residents and the local community through targeted outreach and events.

Administrative Duties:



Provide regular reports to the Manager, Housing and Youth Programming on current activities and weekly programming calendars to residents. Coordinate volunteer opportunities, workshops, and activities for residents, ensuring resident participation and adjusting programming according to current needs. Collaborate with YTHSP staff, participate in projects and YAC committee, and support the planning and facilitation of resident meetings.

Highlights of What You Bring



Education



Undergraduate Degree in Social Work or Diploma in Social Services Worker/ Child and Youth Worker or a combination of directly related education and experience.

CPR/First Aid Training is an asset.

Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI/SMG) Training is an asset.

Experience



Minimum 2 years' experience of work related experience in the homeless, shelter or community development sector.

Knowledge/Skill/Ability



Demonstrates a commitment to inclusiveness diversity and anti-oppressive practices.

Demonstrated leadership skills.

Program planning experience is an asset.

Afrocentric programming and Volunteer management experience is an asset.

Demonstrated commitment to inclusiveness, diversity, and anti-oppressive practices

Understanding of the complex issues facing clients, especially homeless and street-involved youth.

Appreciation of the importance of engaging youth and families from a strengths-based relationship-based approach.

Knowledge of transitional and other housing systems in Toronto.

Sensitivity to and ability to work with a diverse client and staff group.

Strong professional network and knowledge of relevant community resources.

Ability to exercise professionalism and sound judgment in conflictual and stressful situations.

Proven ability to coordinate case management services resulting in seamless service delivery for residents.

Strong administrative and organizational skills.

Flexible, team player with strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office products, and internet use.

Ability and discretion to maintain confidential information.

Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Other Requirements:



Broad Record Police Check is required.

Medical clearance - 2 step TB tests is required.

35 working hours per week including evening and weekend shifts.
