About the Role



CMHA-NL is seeking a dynamic and organized

Program Coordinator

to lead our innovative project, "Killick of Hope." This position is tasked with designing and overseeing a province-wide, volunteer-led support network for survivors of suicide loss, while also laying the operational and relational groundwork for the future deployment of LOSS (Local Outreach to Suicide Survivors) Teams in Newfoundland and Labrador.

This role requires a combination of professional competencies and lived experience. We seek someone who brings not only trauma-informed facilitation skills and program coordination expertise but who also has personal or familial experience with suicide loss. This background fosters deeper trust and credibility among survivor communities and supports the emotional nuance required to lead with authenticity and compassion.

Key Responsibilities:



Volunteer Management: Recruiting, training, and supervising a diverse team of peer volunteers, many of whom are themselves bereaved by suicide.

Curriculum Design: Adapting existing LOSS Team protocols for cultural and logistical relevance in Newfoundland and Labrador.

Stakeholder Engagement: Building collaborative relationships with police agencies and other first responders, healthcare systems, and community organizations to support LOSS team implementation.

Training Delivery: Creating and facilitating engaging, trauma-informed, and culturally safe workshops for both professional and peer facilitators.

Program Evaluation: Leading real-time documentation, continuous improvement, and knowledge translation to inform potential province-wide scale-up.

Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring alignment with project objectives, timelines, and budgets.

Work collaboratively with other CMHA-NL staff, including regional managers and fellow coordinators, to ensure consistency, impact, and innovation in program delivery.

Participate in team meetings and share updates on program progress, outcomes, and challenges.

Collect and analyze feedback to measure program impact and success indicators.

Prepare reports to communicate project outcomes to stakeholders.

Use data to improve program quality and support funder reporting and program development.

Qualifications:



Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, education, or equivalent education and experience.

1- 3 years of experience in program coordination or community-based project management.

Certification in Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST), safeTALK, and Mental Health First Aid is considered an asset.

Certification in LOSS Team (Active Postvention Model) is considered an asset.

In depth knowledge of mental health education and facilitation.

Excellent communication and public speaking skills; ability to facilitate workshops for diverse audiences.

Strong planning, organizational, and time-management skills.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and comfort with online platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Valid driver's license and ability to travel within Newfoundland and Labrador.

Working Conditions:



Travel within Newfoundland and Labrador is required.

Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary.

Additional Requirements:



Current First Aid/CPR Certification or willingness to obtain.

Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check.
