Carty House is a friendly and welcoming communal residence providing transitional housing for female refugee claimants and convention refugees. We offer our residents accommodations, safety, and support as they move through the refugee system and build the resources necessary to live independently. During their stay, we assist our residents with referrals to education, counseling, and other support services, including language instruction, employment training, job search programs, and cultural integration programs and activities.

Position Summary
Reporting to and working in close collaboration with the Executive Director, the Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating client supports and services, including all matters pertaining to resident management and household operations.
Duties & Responsibilities
Provide personalized support and advocacy to Carty House residents, through workshops and individual meetings, including but not limited to:
Implementing resident intake and exit procedures to provide a smooth transition for residents into and out of Carty House.
o Carrying out individualized needs assessments and developing action plans to provide support in the following areas:
Immigration and legal assistance: assisting with interpreting and filling out immigration forms, connecting residents with Legal Aid Ontario or providing legal resources.
Physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health support: coordinating with health professionals, providing referrals to medical agencies, and connecting residents with places of worship.
Education assistance: assisting residents with further education options, school applications, as well as training and skills development courses.
Language support: coordinating with volunteers and external agencies to deliver language education to residents.
Employment and tax support: assisting with job search, resume writing, connecting residents with employment services, and providing residents with free income tax clinic information.
Housing assistance: helping residents apply for the Ottawa Social Housing Registry, offering alternative permanent housing options, and preparing residents for life after Carty House.
Social and cultural integration: facilitating internal events and celebrations, organizing external social activities and promoting Canadian culture.
Referring to appropriate external service providers while liaising with community professionals and partner organizations.
Implementing crisis management and conflict resolution as needed.
Coordinate building management issues such as overseeing maintenance contracts and conducting yearly maintenance tasks (ex. changing furnace filters, checking smoke detectors, etc.).
Household Management
Undertake maintenance and safety audits of the facility on a regular basis including environmental scans and providing recommendations to management when equipment and materials need necessary replacements and/or repairs.
Oversee the general upkeep of the interior and exterior aesthetics of the building in terms of painting, decorations (permanent and seasonal), gardens, resident bedrooms, etc. with the help of volunteers.
Advise residents of their household responsibilities and ensure that these are carried out in an appropriate fashion (ex. Payment of rent, household chores, community living code of conduct, etc.).
Meet with residents individually or in group settings to discuss matters pertaining to the facility and household community.
Administrative (Other Duties)
Assist Executive Director in performing general administrative/office duties and acting as back-up when needed.
Liaise with the Executive Director on a regular basis to provide updates on residents, projects, and household matters.
Prepare a monthly report for the Board of Directors on resident updates, and relevant household matters.
Provide support with logistics for various events including the Carty House Annual General Meeting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent verbal and written communications skills in both French and English.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Social Media platforms, Google Drive, and video conferencing software.
Flexible and adaptable based on emerging needs.
Ability to build trusting relationships with clients, colleagues, volunteers, and external stakeholders.
Continuous learning mindset.

Education and Experience
Relevant post-secondary education and/or equivalent work experience
Proven experience in providing excellent client service to vulnerable populations such as racialized communities is an asset.
Previous experience in a non-profit environment is an asset.
Requirements
Work occasional evenings and weekends.
Candidate will be required to complete a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Ability to climb stairs, lift objects, and stand for extended periods of time.
Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) may be required and will be provided.

Pay: $52,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
