Job Description

Reports to: Executive Director (ED)

Hours of Work: 35 hours per week with maximum flexibility to reflect the flexible nature of the Centre's activity schedule.

About Us:

The Active Adult Centre of Mississauga (AACM) is a recreational, wellness, and community hub for adults 50+ years of age. Established in 1992, the Centre offers a wide array of weekly classes, events, programs and services focused on fitness, creativity, and multicultural enrichment, all at an affordable price to seniors. A registered charity, the AACM promotes healthier aging by keeping local older adults active, independent, and engaged in their community.

Role Overview:

The Program Coordinator oversees AACM's programs, special events, gaming, and cafeteria operations. This role includes managing budgets, supervising part-time staff and volunteers, and ensuring high-quality, engaging programming that meets the needs of members and the community.

Key Responsibilities:



Programs & Services

Plan, implement, and evaluate programs that are relevant, inclusive, and financially viable. These programs should provide members with a range of social, fitness, recreational, and educational opportunities Oversee seasonal planning, instructor contracts, and program budgets Supervise part-time staff, instructors, and placement students Collaborate with administration and communication staff on the production of seasonal activity guides Manage supply inventory, storage, and equipment safety Actively seek outreach opportunities to promote the centre's programming
Special Events & Fundraising

Plan and execute annual special events in conjunction with volunteer committees Prepare event budgets and financial reports Ensure adequate volunteer support and logistics planning
Cafeteria Oversight

Collaborate with Cafeteria Committee on operations, menu planning, and volunteer needs Ensure Public Health standards are met and training is provided
Administration & Reporting

Prepare monthly Board reports on programs, special events, relevant fundraisers and cafeteria operations Contribute to grant applications and strategic planning Maintain and update policies and procedures Handle contracts, invoices and payroll of program instructors Collaborate with communication staff to create promotional posters for programs and events Coordinate purchasing of program and event supplies Liaise with various community groups to promote the Centre's programming/ activities
Duties as assigned from time to time and approved by the Executive Director with prior notice.

Qualifications & Qualities:



Education and/or experience in seniors-focused programming Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and evaluate programs Experience supervising volunteers and program staff Knowledge of planning and organizing non-profit special events/ fundraisers Able to multitask in a busy environment Excellent communication, organization and interpersonal skills Sense of humour Proficient in Microsoft Suite & Zoom Valid G license and access to a vehicle important Ability to meet physical demands of the position, including class set-up & take-down Current standard first aid, CPR and/or AED certificates are an asset A fitness background is an asset
