Position Summary:

Reporting to the Chair, School of Community Services, the Professor is responsible for developing, preparing, and delivering post-secondary courses. Seneca offers courses in four delivery formats: in-person, online, hybrid and flexible. Professors may teach in any one or more of the four delivery formats.

The Professor will be responsible for providing academic leadership in the classroom and within the School, ensuring an effective and compelling learning environment for students.

This role will be mainly based at the King Campus

Faculty will be required to be on campus and may be required to teach at other campuses as needed.

Program Area/Level:

Responsible for teaching courses at a degree level, in the Honours, Bachelor of Mental Health and Addiction program, Course topics include but are not limited to diversity building and resilience, health and wellbeing; income security, food, social inclusion, employment and healthy populations; health promotion and education; and critical community psychology.

Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the senior academic officer of Seneca or designate, the Professor is responsible for:

Teaching:

• Ensuring student awareness of course objectives, approach and evaluation techniques.

• Incorporating active learning strategies in flexible, online, hybrid, and in-person classes.

• Implementing appropriate educational technology and tools in flexible, online, hybrid and in-person classes.

• Carrying out regularly scheduled instruction, which may include tutoring and academic counselling of students.

• Providing a learning environment which makes effective use of available resources and encourages experiential learning.

• Evaluating student progress/achievement and assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of the student\'s work within assigned courses.

Course and Curriculum Development:

• Ensuring an equitable and accessible learning community in flexible, online, hybrid and in-person classes.

• Designing formative and summative assessments (alternative and authentic) for online and in-person classes.

• Consulting with program and course directors and other faculty members, advisory committees, accrediting agencies, potential employers and students.

• Defining course objectives, and evaluating and validating these objectives.

• Specifying or approving learning approaches, necessary resources, etc.

• Developing individualized instruction and multi-media presentations where applicable.

• Selecting or approving textbooks and learning materials.

Academic Leadership:

• Providing guidance to Instructors relative to the Instructors\' teaching assignments.

• Participating in the work of curriculum and other consultative committees as requested.

Qualifications:

Education

\xc2\xb7 Minimum completed Ph.D. in the field of Social and Community Health such Public Health, Social Work, Counselling Psychology, or a closely related field is required.

Experience

\xc2\xb7 Minimum two (2) years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level is required.

\xc2\xb7 Minimum five (5) years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in the area of mental health and addiction with a focus on social determinants of health.

\xc2\xb7 Experience in community-based research utilizing project management skills would be an asset.

\xc2\xb7 Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration (and research) would be an asset.

Skills

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated competencies to deliver in-person, online, flexible and hybrid teaching.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills is required and demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team.

\xc2\xb7 A track record of teaching excellence at the College or University level, and/or delivery of professional training and development.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to teach, engage, and supervise post-secondary students.

\xc2\xb7 Familiarity with curriculum development, student engagement, advisement, and other post-secondary practices, including Universal Design for Learning.

\xc2\xb7 Ability to develop opportunities to build interdisciplinary community partnerships.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to teach indigenous content to both indigenous and non- indigenous students.

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated ability to work from a trauma informed and anti-oppressive lens.

Note: A teaching demonstration will be required during the recruitment process.

Consideration will be given to qualified internal full-time academic and partial-load employees first in accordance with the Collective Agreement requirements. New employees will be required to demonstrate the Faculty Basic Competencies by the end of their probationary period.
